Refresh my memory. Was Jake drafted directly into the Tigers organization? or was he dealt to the Tigers earlier in his career? For some reason I have a vague recollection that he may have been with the Astros org early in his career. If not Jake, maybe it was some other Tulane catcher.

Jake was originally drafted by the Astros, then traded to Detroit in the Justin Verlander deal.

And the Tigers don't think he's the best catcher on their roster! His lifetime .186 BA holds him back, his defense keeps him in the majors. Maybe he turns his hitting around and this is the start of a long run of hitting. But until he can hit .250 with an OPS of .700, he's a platoon player.

verage is irrelevant and there are probably 5 catchers in baseball that can hit .250.
Not including his first stint in the big leagues, Jake has been better than league average on offense.

OPS is almost 800 over his last 61 games

Jake got really screwed by Covid as well. He had gone back and forth to the Tigers a couple of times, then there were no minor leagues for an entire year. I think that hurt a lot of players' development.

I don't think Jake does pink very well.

Tigers DFA Eric Haase. Jake is now the starting catcher for Detroit.
