Tulane Beats #10 Memphis 81-79!
The game is Sunday at noon. It will be on ESPN2. Memphis is currently ranked #10. They were picked to come in 2nd in the conference. We beat them twice last year before being crushed by them in the AAC tourney. They are coming off a loss and will likely have a large following in the gym. Another chance to get a statement win. It's all on Hunter.

Memphis State's loss to USF...blows a 20 point lead to lose.....looks like Penny pulled a Hunter

OK, Penny had temporary insanity...keeping Hunter, is insanity

Yes. I watched it. Was one of those games that they let USF hang around all night. In Memphis also.

We will pay the price on Sunday. They will probably run us out of the gym, like they did at the end of last season.
Tulane is the University of Louisiana
We are a different team at home!!!HoustonWave wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 4:40 pmWe will pay the price on Sunday. They will probably run us out of the gym, like they did at the end of last season.

If Forbes is hitting from outside, it opens up everything else and they can beat anyone (almost anyone). Unfortunately, Forbes being hot from outside is about 50-50. You never know when and if it's not, they have a VERY hard time winning because it's one and done on each offensive possession. Offensive rebounds are not an option for every miss.
Memphis is only a 2.5 point favorite. Could be a a great way to fund the facilities improvements.

I am nearly always optimistic. However, unless Hunter changes things up, there is zero chance the Hardaway does not draw up a gameplan to carve up the predictable zone defense, outrebound us by double. Maybe hitting 67%+ from 3-point range and getting some big calls would keep it close, I do not know.
I see our players coming out strong and being deflated when they work like dogs and see Memphis counter with ease due to poor strategy.

Good number of Memphis fans here. Have to jump out on them early so they don’t take the gym over.

Memphis has at least as many coaches as players... maybe more.
In a shocker Hunter played 8 players in the first half! Hopefully Daniels showed him enough to continue to get minutes.
Fortunately Penny is a bad coach too.
LETS ROLL WAVE ROLL !!!

I guess our NET rating should improve just a bit now.

THE WAVE 81 MEPS. 79
I felt good about this one. Memphis was beatable and we took care of business on our home court today.
Now if Hunter would only start scheduling better non -conference games we could pack the gym again.

Hunter gets off any hot seat with this and a should-have-won against FAU. It's a shame that he could be a good coach if he would bend on the offensive rebounding. Clearly, players like to play for him. After watching today, I think Daniels doesn't play more because he wants to fight for offensive rebounds and that's not what coach Hunter wants.
Fun day at the gym! We break the 24 year streak of not having beaten a ranked team since December, 1999! Great to do it against Memphis.
