Good for Coach Uhlman. I always felt it would be unfair to let him go after one year following the train wreck that Jewett created. This year was really, really bad and no one wants to see a repeat of that ever again. This tournament shows that Coach never lost the confidence of his players in him and themselves. That counts for something and you can't fake it.
While many of us doubted, myself included, the really tough out of conference schedule/travel that Jay set up this season (#8 toughest OOC schedule in the country and # 36 toughest overall), I truly believe facing some really good pitching, traveling together, building camraderie/togetherness amongst the team, etc. really paid dividends this past week. Did I think it would lead to a Conf Tourney championship? No, but what this staff and kids accomplished this week, beating the # 2 seed twice and # 1 seed for the championship, is pretty remarkable. This group is the poster child for "its not how you start but how you finish".
Credit to this staff for keeping the players engaged and pulling for each other and in the same direction. A team that had quit on its coach/staff, doesnt pull this off.
Lets enjoy this championship and see where it leads this weekend.

Well said! I am in total agreement. Great shot in the arm for the program.anEngineer wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 9:42 pm Good for Coach Uhlman. Looks like we'll be the worst RPI in the tournament but not by much. We're at #158 now, up 31 from last week. But Florida A&M also won their tourney, and they're #156. What's odd is that we were ahead of them in RPI before the tournaments, and you would think our opponents were tougher than theirs, but they passed us up.
And the guys at D1's projection is that first out will be ULALA. So looks like we stole the Cajuns' bid.

Yes. Also the 1st 40 loss team in history to make the tournament. Funny thing is if we’re sent to BR as a #4 we won’t have to face LSU’s ace in the opener. They will save him for the next game. That would be something if we beat them in the opener.RobertM320 wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 8:33 am Looks like we'll be the worst RPI in the tournament but not by much. The D1 projections have Maryland and Sam Houston going to BR along with us. Neither seems like world beaters. You really think LSU would risk not pitching their best arm against us and risk losing to Tulane in a regional?

Yep. They have never pitched their ace vs a #4 seed.RobertM320 wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 9:41 am The D1 projections have Maryland and Sam Houston going to BR along with us. They will throw RHP Thatcher Hurd in game 1

Love the part where he says, "runner on third is Novak, who cares?"

I'm assuming their ace is Paul Skenes?

So if we were to knock them off on day 1, would they be forced to use Skenes and Crews to get to the finals? And if we won our first two games, LSU wouldn't have either of them to pitch against us, correct?

Crews is an infielder. Skenes will pitch their game 2.RobertM320 wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 3:31 pmSo if we were to knock them off on day 1, would they be forced to use Skenes and Crews to get to the finals? Congrats to the players and coaches who had to live through the miserable regular season. Now go to Baton Rouge and silence those Tiger fans.
