The new 14 team football league in 2023

If we lose those two games we're likely not getting the NY6 invite even if we were to win the CCG. Two losses with this schedule is highly unlikely to put us as the top-ranked G5 team, might even keep us out of the playoff rankings which determine the NY6 bid. This conference won't get the respect that it did a year ago, and the schedule is not nearly as challenging. A blowout by Ole Miss could keep us out of the top 25 until the CCG.HoustonWave wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 8:06 pm I guess from those predictions we lose to Ole Miss and UTSA in the season finale—only to turn around a beat UTSA in the conference championship game, and then go on to win the Peach Bowl. Kind of a repeat of 2022.
I'm more of an optimist, that if we get to an 11-2 record we'll have a good chance at the Peach Bowl. One, because we on this board know more about how bad the AACUSA is than many who have no interest in the conference, and hopefully it will take a while for the world to realize how weak it is, and by then we've escaped out of it. Secondly, the need to escape AACUSA can serve as a motivator for the coaches and players. and keep the 1-0 mentality at the forefront. And lastly, we should get some carry over credit for what happened last year, especially our win in the Cotton Bowl--winning that game the way we did will be remembered by many for a long time, and not just Tulane fans.DfromCT wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 8:08 amIf we lose those two games we're likely not getting the NY6 invite even if we were to win the CCG. Coastal, App State, Troy, JMU, S. Alabama are as good a group as any 5 AAC teams you can throw together. Cincy and UCF were better, Houston could have been but, in my opinion, Dana H is a LOUSY game day coach. This is my opinion, but based upon the polls over the last few years (and JMU is in year 2 of FBS, remember they got ranked 5 weeks into their FBS life) these schools have no less respect than anyone left in the AAC.Ruski wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 1:16 am Y'all love to be losers before a single snap of football has even been played.
UTSA, ECU, Memphis, SMU will all be very strong this year. The rest of the league is a crapshoot. Having those 4 plus us with 9+ wins at the top of the league will be very good for rankings. SMU, UTSA, Memphis, and Tulane will all benefit from recency bias, being winning programs over the last 5 or so years. The thing that kills G5s against the P5s, will be to our benefit.
Tulane and SMU meeting in the championship, with 2/3 losses between them, would assure the AAC a NY6 invite.
Where was this published? The writer lost all credibility when (s)he says AAC will go after UConn. UConn back to the AAC is much less likely than Tulane back into the SEC. The smallest amount of research could have told him/her that.Greeniegb wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 4:47 pm College Football Expansion Predictions, Conference Realignment, What's New In 2023
23 College Football Thoughts for 2023: Expansion predictions, realignment, and who’s in each conference.
Future Status of AAC according to College Football News, Tulane will join the Big 12 along with two other AAC schools Memphis and USF.
American Athletic Conference
- 2023 American Athletic Conference Football Schedules
Teams in 2023: Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Navy, North Texas, Rice, SMU, Temple Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, USF, UTSA
What's New in 2023: All of the good football programs left, except for the one that won the AAC Championship and the Cotton Bowl. Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF are now in the Big 12. Eight of the schools are still around, and Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB, and UTSA left Conference USA to join the party.
What's Next for 2024: Nothing is set in stone, but the Pac-12 is pitching some serious woo with SMU. The AAC might not have anything on deck to add more teams, but it'll be proactive - i.e. go take more Conference USA schools, or maybe Army or UConn - if needed.
American Athletic Conference Expansion Prediction: SMU is in the Pac-12 in 2025, and the Big 12 - after getting jilted by the Pac-12 schools rumored to be on the way - keeps the AAC raid going with Memphis, Tulane, and USF.
Conference USA Expansion Prediction: The league will keep looking to add schools to overcome the eventual loss of more members. If the American Athletic Conference doesn't find a way to get Army, UConn, and/or UMass, Conference USA will give it a try.
The call is that the rest of the league stays intact next year, but FIU or WKU will be on the AAC radar depending on whether or not the Big 12 goes after Memphis, Tulane and/or USF.

Thanks for the link. Opinion of contents unchanged. UConn going back to the AAC has less chance of happening than Tulane going back to the SEC.
Yes, you've told us that repeatedly. It would be great to get a Big 12 invite, nobody has said otherwise. But it's not necessarily in the cards for two reasons: 1. The Big 12 has said they're not interested in any more G5 additions and 2. The Commissioner of the Big 12 seems to have an anti-Tulane bias.Greeniegb wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 7:38 pm
I believe this is the best case for the Wave, keeping rivalry and trips to Houston and Memphis for our fans, rivalries with UCF and Cincinatti, TCU will be a good rivalry, along with Baylor, help us recruiting in Texas.
