The FAU win over Memphis was a 9 seed over an 8 seed, hardly a huge upset. I just heard the Mississippi coach on ESPN radio. They beat FAU 80-67 early in the season when FAU was without their only Senior player in the top 8 rotation, Forrest (he's their 6th man). The Ole Miss coach said he watched them play Florida a couple of nights later and thought they were easily a tournament team, and the class of C-USA where he said he coached for years. This is a very young team that will be favored to win the AAC next year if they stay together. I'm sure their coach will be getting offers. Win 30 games and take your team to the Elite 8 (and possibly the Final Four) and you become a hot commodity.

And a tip of the cap to the FAU AD for scheduling Ole Miss and Florida in the OOC.

Not only did they strengthen their schedule, they probably collected a nice paycheck as well.

Maybe. That's not nearly as big a deal as it is in Football, where payday games easily net 6 figures and often are 7 figures. I don't know what, if any, pay scale there is for basketball payday games, but I'm sure it's a fraction of what a football game can get you, at best.

But scheduling nothing but cupcakes hurts your SOS, and all the power rankings, and doesn't give your team a chance to see where they stand. Hunter is the rare bird that doesn't want a tough OOC schedule, most prefer to play tough games in November and December. In the old days, Louisville would play a Metro game on Saturday and a national TV game on Sunday, just for the exposure.

If he continues to schedule lite we’ll have to win them all pre conference. And it usually doesn’t prepare you for the league playing the SWAC’s of the world.

Coach Hunter's weak OOC schedule is all about ego. He has said so. He has not been willing to schedule teams that are not willing to give us a return home game the following year. Will he change that attitude next year? It seems to me that the first step is to get into the NCAA by any means necessary. Then, if you prove you belong with a good showing, teams will be willing to play here. We will see.

A 20-win season at Tulane? I'm shocked Hunter's still here.

SEC: Out of the tournament
B1G: 8 teams in, 1 made it to sweet 16, out of the tournament
ACC: 1 team left
Big 12: 2 teams left had 7 in the tournament
Big East: 2 teams left, had 3 of their 5 entries make sweet 16, most of any conference.
C-USA: 1 team left (that will be AAC next year)
Mountain West: 1 team left
West Coast Conference: 1 team left

How does that PEE bias look today?
