Just a watch out, looking at Coach Wood's stats as a coach. Ex. at Army defense holding opponents to low scoring and offense. The best defense is a good offense. Army's offense of running and controlling time of possession does not give the opposing offenses opportunities to score. That has to be part of the equation when looking at a defensive coordinator. Offenses that control the football always keeps the defense off the field and makes them look good. Defensive coordinators from pass happy quick scoring offenses won't always look good.golfnut69 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 12:36 pm from al.com sports

Not that impressive on 3rd and 4th down defense at Troy
3rd Down Conversions 81-204 (39.71 %)
4th Down Conversions 15-29 (51.72 %)
Stange his playing position was as a wide receiver, no defensive background!!!

Thought exactly the same thing.
Black Knights run game eats up the clock and makes Defenses appear better than they really are .

Just admit it, any hire other than Lionel Washington sucks in your mind. We get it. Now you need to get that LW is NOT walking through that door.Greeniegb wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 1:11 pmJust a watch out, looking at Coach Wood's stats as a coach. What is really wrong with you Robert you have big issues if you have to knock facts. Opinions are easy to knock because they are just that someone's opinion!!! I get fed up with blind eyed opinions that don't give facts to back their opinions. You never catch me giving opinions without relative facts backing my opinions. What I have stated are legitimate concerns in an offense that scores quickly and puts their defense back on the field just as quickly. That is one reason Coach Fritz has always wanted a balance attack to make it easy on his defenses. These are facts that have been stated previously from Coach Fritz. But when you have great athletes like Pratt and Spears they do score quickly, Now get off my back you are very heavy!!!RobertM320 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 2:21 pmJust admit it, any hire other than Lionel Washington sucks in your mind. Looks to be a great hire!
Speak softly but carry a bigschtick!
Reason??
Let's look at unbiased facts from Troy's defensive stats from 2021 prior to Woods as DC, and 2022 with Woods as DC
Point allowed per game: 26/17
lst Downs allowed: 226/276
Rushing Touchdowns: 15/15
Rushing yards per game: 143/119
Total Rushing yards: 1716/1673
Passing Touchdowns: 19/14
Passing Yards allowed per game: 194/206
Total Passing yards allowed: 2339/2896
Total Offense: 4055/4569
Sacks: 32/46
Mixed defensive stats pre-Wood and Wood as DC, decide based off of facts, then give educated opinions, I am neutral!!!
They played 12 games in ‘21 and 13 in ‘22 so totals are not equivalent.Greeniegb wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 4:07 pmReason??

Stadiums get old, winning never does.

Good stat, looking at Troy's offense was night and day between 2021 and 2022. 1000 more yards and 56 more lst downs in 2022. Kept the defense off the field more than in 2022.

It seems like a reasonable hire, but who really knows? He's the guy and we'll see next year... unless he gets hired away next week.

Wouldn’t strength of schedule make comparison obsolete? Just want a DC who makes his players want to eat the opponent and spit out a win, Like 2022 D did

Quite interesting defensive coach, played receiver in high school and college, started coaching as a receiver coach, must be a story as to why he switched to coaching the defense. Looking forward to seeing, seems to coach an aggressive defense. Turnovers win ball games and Willie success is tied to winning the turnover battle.winwave wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 6:43 pm Pattern of success:

The ONLY stat in the list that matters is the first one. 26 to 17 ppg.Greeniegb wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 4:07 pmReason??

All the rest is meaningless. But if you do want a take from it, I see a defense that was much stingier on the ground, allowing the offense to build up big leads, and causing the other team to pass more to catch up, thus the increase in passing yards and total yards. And despite the 20% increase in passing yards, the passing touchdowns went DOWN from 19 to 14. I see nothing but positive in these numbers.
