Looks like the NFL sees him as another Christian McCaffery--not a bad role for Tyjae.

They have him as the 17th rated RB. I'll bet he has a better, more productive NFL career than at least 12 ranked above him. We all know he's better than these services that didn't watch him yet grade him like this one. He reminds me of Marshall Faulk more than McCaffrey. Just not quite as fast.tpstulane wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 9:55 am Here’s the ‘23 RB class link (page 2)

Hold your horses we still have the combines, Tyjae is up to 210 lbs now one of his knocks was being too small at 195, he is negating that negative. His 40-yard dash and other measurables will determine his draft position!!! You are reading opinions prior to the Senior Bowl. Tyjae's stock is rising everyday. 5'11" 210-215 lbs is nice size.DfromCT wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 12:42 pmThey have him as the 17th rated RB. Can he run one? I'll be interested to see how his speed compares. To me, his quickness (different from speed) elusiveness and vision are his strengths. That, and the fact that he's an outstanding young man, a great teammate and really the total package. He has a lot of outstanding qualities that distinguish him, but I don't think he's particularly fast for a RB.Greeniegb wrote: ↑Fri Mar 03, 2023 1:10 pmCombine today, a sub 4.4 time will move Tyjae to top 50!!!tpstulane wrote: ↑Fri Mar 03, 2023 6:29 am Moves up to #80 (early to mid 3rd round) in the Top 100 draft prospects.

I would agree. He was definitely caught from behind a few times. His sorcery at RB was his ability to cut on a dime and read the defenders before their next move, not outrunning them. We'll see! C'mon Tyjae!DfromCT wrote: ↑Fri Mar 03, 2023 1:26 pmCan he run one? I'll be interested to see how his speed compares. Seems like we really didn't make use of these skills as much as we could have.
SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS
- Spears is elite as a receiver. He runs routes as well as most receivers and has natural hands, snatching the ball away from his body.
- He’s a quality receiver with soft hands, and Spears shows a good feel for catching and transitioning upfield in the screen game.
- His best asset is his ability in the passing game. He’s a coordinated hands catcher who transitions quickly and smoothly to a runner, good enough to make an impact as a slot receiver. He even tracks the ball well when asked to run deeper routes.

What's funny is how two experts can have such different opinions. I think the profile that Robert quoted is a better description and wonder if the guy from NFL.com ever watched a Tulane game? Particularly the CCG!Overview
Spears has the size of a change-of-pace back, but he needs to play with more consistent explosiveness, as he’s unlikely to offer the versatility typically expected from a player in that role. He’s coming off an extremely productive and consistent season as Tulane’s RB1, though. He runs with good bend, average vision and the patience to use lead blockers to his advantage. Spears possesses modest creativity and power through the line of scrimmage but becomes more elusive once he’s up to the second level.
Strengths
Averaged seven yards per carry during his Tulane career.
Finished 2022 season with 21 total touchdowns.
Runs with good bend and smooth change of direction.
Adequate field vision through the line of scrimmage.
Can make sharp cuts on the second level.
Runs defenders into his blockers.
Makes cuts off the hip of blockers with good timing.
Weaknesses
Average recognition and imagination as a runner.
Tends to lack early pace and decisiveness.
Doesn’t have much run-through power in his legs.
Hands are slippery and unsure as pass-catcher.
Significant knee injury history will require examination.

Embarrassing a so called expert could be so out in left field clueless. He obviously never seen him in play person. Ask UCF, Cincy and USC their opinion.DfromCT wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 8:31 pmWhat's funny is how two experts can have such different opinions. These "experts" know less about individual players than the fans that followed them. That's one reason mock drafts are so ridiculous. Watch the commentary of these jokers when the draft takes place. I've posted this before, but it's worth repeating what widely considered the leading "expert" on the NFL draft, Mel Kiper, said when the Colts drafted Marshall Faulk:
"This is why the Colts are again picking in the lottery. This is a wasted lottery draft pick and the fans of Indianapolis should be livid."
On the flip side, there's been some rumblings up here about the Giants taking Spears in the 3rd round. Saquon is a free agent and even if he stays they need a reliable sub and heir apparent. RB day is today, Sunday March 3rd. So we'll know more about his 40 time by the end of the day. What he did at the Senior Bowl doesn't go away. He proved to be the best receiver on the field even though he's an RB. His only apparent weakness is in pass protection, which is a concern because he'll be taking on bigger and stronger LB's in the NFL.
