Poaching of MSU Players? https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb ... f9903738a1
And, didn't MSU try to poach our players in 2003 when Cowen tried to end the program, or was it after Katrina in 2005?

This is the most disgusting and inappropriate post of 2022 , possibly of the 21st century , on gotulane.net .

Similarly, a presser was called to announce Lou Holtz as Tulane coach. But the Jets called right before the announcement could be made.

So I guess you only read the second phase. This is a Tulane forum. My brother and his wife are State season ticket holders. On Monday before he passed he texted me that possible successors were being discussed including Willie. The fact that they hired a full time coach two days after he passed gives credence to my brother’s text. Sorry you might have been offended.

I never knew Holtz almost coached Tulane. I looked it up in TPS's dad's book. Right there on pages 249-250 it's discussed. It doesn't read like they ever got to the stage of a press conference, but Holtz didn't come to New Orleans for further discussions about the job because the Jets called. Dave Dixon was intricately involved, of course. He knew Holtz through Superdome connections.

Tulane chose Shaughnessy over him. Good hire either way.

That story I have known for years! As it goes, Clark Shaughnessy had just signed on to become the coach of the Football, Basketball and I think Track teams and Tulane sent a telegram to Knute Rockne who was about to leave for New Orleans to interview for the job!
