And this from the Atlanta Constitution....perhaps a more credible source:

Hopefully either Chip Long will take our awful offensive line coach, Chris Watt, who he recommended to Willie Fritz with him to Georgia Tech or we fire him.

The “long” history of Tulane hiring bad coaches he may be near the top of the list. He was an absolute disaster.

Joe Brady is available along with his protege Jake Peetz, current LSU OC.
Panthers must have caught Brady talking to LSU or Oklahoma to become the OC there.

If you’re talking about Hampton, I agree. But Long was Ok until Pratt got hurt in Ole Miss game down by 40.
By the way the absolute worst hires in football were…drum roll please. In the 2nd runner up position we have a tie between Wally English and Greg Davis. First runner up is Bob Toledo. And the winner..uh..,loser as the worst coach in Tulane football history is Curtis Johnson.

Morbid curiosity: In his decision to leave, what percentages would you guess were 1)He viewed GT as a better job; 2)He realized Tulane was a losing option and 3)He was encouraged to leave...

Whaddya think?

My guess is 60:40 between 1 and 2. He viewed GT as a slightly better job that was a fresh start and not a resume buster and he also didn't see Tulane turning things around quickly. I doubt that he was encouraged to leave.

I think he was allowed to save face and leave for another gig before being fired. Or Atleast that’s my hope

Expected the day we hired him .

Unexpected how unqualified he is .

Unknown how Michael Pratt reacts . Pratt is the story here ,

About 80% of Walley English's staff was absolutely solid:
Bryant Poole d-line coach from Bear Bryant's staff. Fantastic d line coach.
Kurt Shottenheimer DB's
Joe Philbin. DB's & Miami Dolphins Head Coach
Mile Sherman OL, Green Bay Packers Head Coach.
Bob Davie, the single most creative DC that I had ever play for. At 29 years old he made a bunch of shitbirds shine every single week. He reunited with Jackie Sherrill @ TAMU with a dominant defense. He was also Head Coach at Notre Dame..
Wally English had his flaws, but if we had his staff coaching Nickie Hall and the 1980 roster things would have turned out much differently.
Our AD forced a few of his buddies onto the staff that were pretty worthless as position coaches.

Davis, English and Toledo were worse than Curtis Johnson.
Davis was the worst recruiter.
Toledo had the weakest staff.
English had a good staff; but that whole deal was just weird. Wall was in the middle of that. We should have been pretty good, but just fell apart.
And you have to put Teevens in there somewhere. And Scelfo -good lord, was he terrible.

Teevens was a good recruiter and impressive guy but failed terribly in game. Davis was Mack’s OC, the players pushed for him. He was way over his head, ended back with Mac. English beat FSU in His first season, he had flaws but wasn’t our worst coach- that distinction goes to Scelfo, his selection over Rich Rod goes down as one of our all time mistakes

Wally recruited Bubba Brister after a year of minor league baseball (Detroit Tigers) Brister had run the same "system"wishbone/veer offense since junior high school in Monroe.
When Brister arrived for Spring drills he got the NFL reactive pro-offense thrown at him. The University of Pittsburgh Dan Marino offense. His transition didn't go smoothly & his play was effected by a serious shoulder injury that happened in Summer camp. Walley's Son Jon wound up starting because Bubba Brister needed every snap he could take to transition to a pro offense. He continued to throw in summer camp & his shoulder injury got worse.
Jon English understood the offense, he was a decent QB . Perhaps becauae of his 6th year status. Bubba Brister was a tremendous athlete who just needed more time & snaps for things to slow down for him.

I put English in there because as soon as he got to Tulane he badmouthed the program as an excuse in case he lost, then ignored the school’s wishes and played his ineligible son that cost us Brister He also sued school to get to play his son. He was a good coach but a disaster as the leader of a program. As an aside, he and his coaches were waving players out onto the field encouraging them to join in the brawl at LSU.

Davis was listed as OC b/c he was Mack's guy. Mack was the OC. Mack bestowed that title on him knowing he would move on soon and he'd use that ruse to get him promoted. Terrible coach for us.

Complete BS. If he was that bad Mack wouldn’t have hired him at Texas.
He served as OC for the 2005 national champion Longhorns, where he was awarded the Broyles Award for the nation's top assistant coach for the 2005 season. Was at Texas for 13 seasons from 1998-2010.
