That’s quite a leap. There are scholarship implications. If Campbell makes it to Tulane, someone else currently on the team likely doesn’t.

Jewett and Dannen both have earned criticism
But undoubtedly, Dannen will use the Tulane Admission fiasco as the needed excuse for keeping TJ. Even most of us agree that if we'd had Campbell in our lineup, we probably would have gotten a Regional slot. Though that's just a supposition, that's all Dannen needs to avoid another coaching search.

As of June 3, the OSU website considers Justin Campbell to be their ace. And much of the college baseball world considers him a two-way stud, as he's 1 of 5 finalist for the College Baseball Foundation's 2021 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award. He is also 1 of 45 players on USA Baseball's list for the Golden Spikes Award, as the top amateur player in the country. Those are the facts that matter.

Facts that matter. As a freshman against only OOC competition he went 1-2 with a 4.43 ERA. So no he wouldn't have been ahead of Olthoff and Aldrich. In his second season he was their midweek starter through all of OOC and the start of conference play. In conference he did well against the bottom half of the conference and was 0-2 with a 7.50 ERA against the top 3 teams . He hit .200 in conference. So there must be a dearth of two way players for him to be up for that. The point being we had some here claim he was a step on campus stud two way player. His freshman numbers don't support that. Then we had those that claimed he was their Friday night ace this entire season. Again clearly not true. Two years in he's getting better on the mound . It would be nice to have him for next year when we will be desperate for starting pitching.

The facts are that Campbell is good and you didn’t know what you were talking about. A common theme

Fact is to anybody that actually keeps up with it he continued the same theme of being good against the weak teams and losing to the good teams. You all claimed he was a walk on campus stud two way player. His coach realized after year one he wasn't a hitter at this level. Later bitter wiz.

9-2 (5-1 in conference play) isn't too shabby. Really could have used him.

Exactly. And coaches talk to one another. I’m certain losing him was a factor in our coaches search.

Yes they do. I had lunch with a local coach and an ex-Tulane player last week. They all know the hurdles; however; the consensus was if the scholly rule changes it will be a very attractive position.

so you're saying if the schollie limits change the Tulanes of the world will be back in the game, then I predict the P5 schools will vote against any changes.

If this change passes it will allow each conference to decide for themselves. If the SEC votes no and then AAC votes yes then the AAC will have a big advantage there.
If anything the P5’s most likely will vote yes and the G5’s no for financial reasons.

The G5's won't turn it down. As has long been said here and on our other sites there's no real cost to the school for the scholarships.

Yes there are real costs.
Sitting in a tuition free classroom won’t cost but there are many other costs that the school has to now pay for. Besides tuition Athletic scholarships provide free housing, free laptops, free books, free meals. And other things. Many of the poorer G5’s won’t want this burden.

The G5's will vote for the expansion. They are smart enough to know they are signing their death certificate if they don't.
