Set to announce soon where he is going. Do we have a realistic shot?

Hope you are right. Heard the same about Amos and the WR that committed to Florida. Something to consider is we just offered the RB from Leesville (Xavier Ford).

I would agree. The P4 label is too hard to overcome. He can take Duke NIL money for a year or two then come back home if it doesn’t work out.

Bigger stage to play on. Probably bigger NIL bucks. Top 10 school in academics.

Duke has been middle of the ACC for the last couple of years. Manny Diaz is the new coach, not WOW but not terrible. If you can start at Duke, you're gonna get some looks for the NFL.

If it was your son, and you weren't Tulane affiliated, would you really advise them to pass on Duke? `

Yes, I could definitely tell him to pass on Duke or any of the other schools. Tulane football, New Orleans, great education, great coaching staff. Enough NIL available. And he would be staying home. Just have a feeling this is Duke and I hope I am dead wrong.

After months of nothing but negativity about the immediate future of Tulane Athletics, I find your response above extremely difficult to believe.

I don’t doubt you’re a Tulane fan. I’ll keep it positive and hope Nate Sheppard sees all the good things happening with Tulane Football that you mention.

Committed to Duke. Such a shame we are not a P4.

Coach (Willie) Simmons was really the deciding factor. ACC and leave Louisiana second and 3rd.

We continue to lose good players that we would get if we were P4. What the hell is the Tulane admin doing? I never see us seriously mentioned for P4 consideration. This really sucks.

Tulane offered Nate Sheppard the opportunity to stay close to home, but he’s embracing the opportunity to move to North Carolina.

“Coach (Brock) Hays is a phenomenal running backs coach (at Tulane),” Sheppard said. “Coach J.J. (McCleskey), I’ve known him since I was real young. They were big aspects in my recruiting process.

“Louisiana’s great, but there’s a lot to experience in this country, so being able to go somewhere else and play in the ACC, it’s real nice.”

Agreed. There's nothing wrong or unusual about a young person wanting to experience someplace new. Some like it, some don't.

Reminds me of when we lost LB Trent Mackey to Duke in 2008. Mackey eventually "circled back" to the Wave after he got in disciplinary trouble with then Duke head coach David Cutcliffe.

I cannot blame Sheppard at all. He wanted to get out of his backyard and experience a new place. He found one that has both superior academics and athletics and if it works out for him at Duke he’s in a great place. Sure, he could come home in a year or two, but if he doesn’t climb the depth chart at Duke who knows if he does so here?
