Their 20-17 win over the Panthers in last night’s “Monday Night Football” opener was downright unwatchable at times. A division that looked super winnable for New Orleans before the season looks a lot tougher after these showings, plus surprising early season runs from both Atlanta and Tampa Bay.
Keep in mind the Saints were playing with their 3rd RB, as Kamara is still suspended and Jamaal Williams got hurt in the first series. Defense wise, the Saints were one minute away from going two straight games without giving up a TD. The only reason Carolina scored late was because the Saints D played a very lazy prevent, not even making an effort to tackle players inbounds. But then again they were an onside kick recovery away from a potential win. I was at the first saints regular season game...John Gilliam, 94 yards on the opening kik off.....the noise from the people pounding the steel floors was awesome...Sains- Rams...the Fearsome Foursome
You’re exactly correct about that turf. It was really plastic made to look like grass only the blades were hard plastic and sharp. It’s amazing what the conditions that the older generation guys played under and never complained. I remember the dugouts also that blew out a few knees before they put plywood over them and those hedges that were right up against the South End Zone. Same here. Went to all those games with my dad. In fact I was a ball boy during 1969 season.
