It's my favorite website for college football stats. Their Simple Rating System (SRS) basically use strength of schedule and point differential.

The AAC is currently ranked 6th right above the Sun Belt and below the PAC-12.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2022.html

Tulane is ranked 15th in the country right now, by far the highest in the American with East Carolina next at 33. Offensive SRS (OSRS) is 57th, but defensive SRS (DSRS) is 14th in the country. USM is currently 86th in the country

Also, according to this metric, Tulane should be a 17 point favorite since their SRS is 15 pts higher plus adding two with being at home

I'll keep updating it weekly.

After week 6, the numbers look interesting. Strength of schedule/margin of victory makes up the foundation of these unbiased numbers,

Here's how the conference numbers look

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2022.html

The AAC isn't far behind the Big Ten/ACC/Pac-12 and still has a leg up on the Sun Belt because of how strong the Wave and UCF rate. My guess on why the AAC is rated higher than the Sun Belt is because the Sun Belt West is really weak outside of South Alabama.

Here's how the individual teams rank.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/ye ... tings.html

The Wave are ranked 29th in the country based on their Simple Rating System (SRS) which is a combination of their Margin of victory and strength of schedule. They're the 3rd highest G5 team behind JMU (10th) and UCF (16th), and 2nd in the AAC behind UCF. The Defensive Simple Rating System (DSRS) has the Wave at a whopping 9th which is the highest G5 team, but the offensive Simple Rating System (OSRS) is 80th and they have a negative value. Also 8th in the conference.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/ye ... dings.html

Clicking on SOS (strength of schedule), the Wave is at 76th in the country.

Numbers after week 7 are up.

The AAC is still ranked 6th, not far behind the PAC-12 and have widen ahead of the Sun Belt.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2022.html

In the team rankings, the Wave fell from 29th to 31st probably because USF is ranked so lowly. The defense fell from top 10 to 19th now while the offense moved up from 80th to 64. We're the 3rd highest G5 team behind UCF (14th) and JMU (26th) and second in the AAC though Cincy has closed the gap on us climbing to 38th.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/ye ... tings.html

All-time Tulane wise, this would be the best team we've seen since the 1998 season and 20th altogether. The 1998 team ranks 13th. The strength of schedule for this group would rank 94th in team history which is still better than the 98 schedule which is 111th. The best team in Tulane history is the 1931 team which went 11-1 losing to USC in the Rose Bowl

These are the results after Week 12.

Numbers after week 7 are up.

The AAC is still ranked 6th making it the highest G5 conference and the only non-P5 conference with a positive rating which is the case every season. On the field the last several years, the AAC has been a true P6 which is why they usually get the NY6 spot and will be the case again this year barring a collapse. Big 12 has been rated the top conference all season.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2022.html

In the team rankings, the Wave are up to 22 making them the highest G5 team after the big win against SMU and UCF struggling against Navy. UCF is at 28th, Cincy is at 38th with UTSA at 46th barely above the highest ranked Sun Belt team USA at 47th. It helps the Wave having K-State 6th now. The defense is 20th now while the offense is up to 50.

All-time Tulane wise, this would be the best team we've seen since the 1998 season and 17th altogether. The 1998 team ranks 13th. Third best Tulane team since 1950, behind only the 1998 team (#13) and the 1979 team (#8)

Also, the 11 year period between 2005 and 2015 had 8 of the 11 worst Tulane teams of all time. That's how far down we've been.

Tell me about it Robert. Those Toledo and CJ years were already brutal for us fans, but the numbers show how bad they really were, especially Toledo

Amazing to see Bama only 4 total and they can’t sniff a playoff spot.

Thanks g78. I've long touted that '79 team as our best in modern times. Tons of talent.

No problem WW. I was only a year old in 1979 so I don't have any memory, but that looks like a heck of a team. Still, the schedule doesn't look particularly great except for the fact that most of the teams were from big schools. But the best win looks to be against a 7-5 LSU team.

Certainly wasn't a light schedule. We beat two ranked teams. The talent was there though and fun to watch. There were those that wanted Smith fired after year 3. But you could see we were building to 1979 plus Infante came back as the OC. Hire him after that season when Smith left and we Roll on.
