A plan to avoid spending Tulane money that it doesn’t have. I think most schools will do something similar. Even the aTm $20MM NIL war chest this past recruiting season was generated from organized alum groups.

Tshiebwe is about to get a free Porsche, like teammates TyTy Washington and Shaedon Sharpe, and launch a merchandise and apparel deal.

So who's going to pay the income taxes on these gifts? The players are going to be on the hook for income tax, even if they don't realize it.
The tax situation on NIL can take a couple directions. If it’s a “gift”, up to $16,000 (per giving individual) can be given without triggering any income tax for the recipient, and not counting against the gift giver’s lifetime gift/estate tax exemption (which starts at any gift more than $16,000 in a single year). On the other hand, if the payment is deducted as a business expense, then it is taxable income to the receiving athlete (no matter the amount), and the payor must provide the athlete with a Form 1099 notifying (and reminding) the athlete that he/she received taxable income.
IRS will probably have a field day trying to run all that down, and maintain compliance. But if compliance isn’t enforced, then each of us, as U.S. taxpayers, will be subsidizing many of these NIL payments, at any school. So we better hope IRS enforces compliance.

You may hope for whatever you wish. The GOP already blocked IRS funding, LOL

I knew it wouldn't take long for NIL deals to trickle down to high school underclassmen--the back alley "agents" who have been recruiting high school players since the early 80's were bound to jump on the NIL concept. I see no way the law will allow NIL rights for college athletes, but not high school athletes.

Nice try meat man. Instead of more funding, maybe the IRS just needs to refocus from harassing conservative groups and concentrate on collecting revenue for the government. Obama and Biden killed any chance of additional IRS funding when they weaponized the IRS, along with about every other federal agency.

And weaponizing against themselves. LOL

" It later emerged that liberal groups had been targeted, too, although in smaller numbers."

Yes. It will be interesting to see what Arch Manning’s deal ends up being.

Tennessee’s $8 million dollar man.
https://theathletic.com/3241640/2022/04 ... essee-nil/
That deal will pay its subject as much as $8 million in exchange for the collective marketing revenue made off the player’s NIL rights for the next four years. Iamaleava’s father Nick offered a quick “no comment when asked about the deal Saturday. But within 10 days of the deal being signed, Iamaleava committed to Tennessee. Knoxville-based marketing agency Spyre Sports is the group dealing with the most current Tennessee players, and appears to be on the cutting edge of NIL deals compared to most of its competitors .

LSU at it again.

THE INVESTIGATORS: Man arrested in stolen speeding sports car dealer claims is tied to NIL agreement with LSU football player

https://www.wafb.com/2022/04/15/investi ... ll-player/
Questions are swirling over how a car that was contracted to an LSU football player through a name, image, and likeness (NIL) agreement ended up reportedly stolen and pulled over on the interstate late Thursday night.

Louisiana State Police say 23-year-old Latreval Jones was pulled over in a 2018 Dodge Challenger Thursday night. The problem is he does not own the car.

Ran into a big LSU donor recently and we were talking about the new NIL rules. He laughed and asked did I know what NIL stands for?
I said of course Name, Likeness and Image. He said that’s at Tulane. At LSU it stands for “Now It’s Legal”.
Just amazing how they love to brag about cheating.

If whining about LSU was a sport, Tulane would be national champ every year.

Actually they have always been honest. They have always said before NIL "that if you're not cheating you're not trying'.

Booster crackdowns soon?

Looks like the big money is ready to sue based on anti-trust should the NCAA crackdown on them.

Laughable. The NCAA must enjoy the legal slap downs they’ve been getting. “Thank you sir, may I have another.”
