Devon Booker was second team all conference and predicted first team all conference and has very impressive shooting %. I’m not sure how many years of eligibility he has left, 1 ? Or 2?
Obviously the other pickup is huge getting a former Mr Louisiana and LSU freshman is fantastic. 247 predicted him to be a P5 starter, excellent play making, shooting and defending skills. Obviously we wish they were both larger in stature . . .

New transfer rules mean that Tulane is better served building with young transfers that have loads of eligibility left. Find kids that show signs and offer them a bigger platform (and good degree if they stay).nawlinspete wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 1:27 pm Sounda great , but when is Coach Hunter going to seriously recruit high schoolers ?

Jalen Cook, the LSU transfer, is essentially the same thing. He has 3-4 years of eligibility remaining, and he was Mr. Basketball in Louisiana as a HS senior, so this is like getting him out of high school with a free year of college experience/strength and conditioning in a major program. He'll be a good player here for a while.nawlinspete wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 1:27 pm Sounda great , but when is Coach Hunter going to seriously recruit high schoolers ?
Cook is not the same as a High Schoolers, LSU Basketball Players are one or two year then turn pro. Type of player Wade recruits. We are not that type of University.hullabaloo wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 2:29 pmJalen Cook, the LSU transfer, is essentially the same thing. Cook is a solid pickup for Hunter. He’s a great defender and he can score.(LSU didn’t need scorers with Smart and Thomas playing). Hopefully he picks up where he left off in HS scoring near 30pts per game and continues to be a lockdown defender.
I’m surprised he left LSU because they had a complete turnover with their roster and he’d start there now.

Solid work by Hunter. No reason to denigrate these additions and compare it to HS recruits.

The days of recruiting high school players are over. It’s all about mining the transfer portal. Tulane has to get better players out of the portal than what goes in.
Are you joking, focus must be on getting the best High School Players because they will be more committed to the University for pursuing them in recruiting. High School signees will be more committed to be Student Athletes at Tulane. Getting someones rejects solely is not a long term stradegy!!! Yes you seek top transfers but you don't live and die by transfers!!! Transfers main focus is finding playing time and can be a bad influence if they don't get that time at the new school. Tulane builds and appeals to Student Athletes from High School and winning will help them get the better grade of High School Recruits. Let's not become a clone of the school up the River!!!JerseyWave wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 8:22 pm The days of recruiting high school players are over. It’s all about mining the transfer portal. As the program currently stands, we never could have never gotten him out of high school. The appeal and brand of LSU and P5 BS is too strong. Now with the transfer rule they can see they’re bot going to start and the hype is mostly BS and make a better decision. I’ll take it for now
Glad we got them and hope they pan out here. No doubt there are question marks about both. Cook didn't do much at LSU and with all the players they are losing you'd think he would have stayed there. It appears Wade wasn't interested in keeping him. As for Baker he had nice numbers but that was at UNCA not UNC. Hopefully it translates here but certainly no guarantee. With so many schools mining the transfer portal it seems we would have an opening with HS recruits to take a step up there.

Apparently Jalen Cook (the LSU transfer) was also a 4 Star WR/Athlete in football with offers from Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame and many other teams . . . Hmmmmmmmmm we do really need WR’s.

I actually prefer freshmen transfers than high school recruits. These freshmen, and sophomores, have already adjusted to college life. More than a few high schoolers have unraveled just because they couldn't adjust to the changes of college life, and college competition.

The more I think about it, the more I hope Cook would become an all conference slot receiver for us. There have been a few folks who have had success playing football and basketball, even Nate Robinson who is a very similar build to cook. Cook’s offers and football highlights speak for themselves

Edit:
We were in the running this year for Keon Coleman - 4 star WR who insisted upon playing football and basketball. He ended up at Mich State, who now have two guys who are playing both basketball and football this year. Clearly fritz and hunter have spoken about this before, I hope it is an option.

New Picayune story about four-star transfer Jalen Cook.
https://www.nola.com/sports/tulane/arti ... 890f23.htmCook, a 4-star point guard rated the No. 2 player in Louisiana and No. 123 prospect nationally when he signed with the Tigers out of Walker High near Baton Rouge, spent less than two weeks in the transfer portal before choosing the Green Wave after leaving LSU in April.
