This article discusses what I have advocated for for a long time. He talks about reducing scholarships to 75. I actually think the number should be 70. That would provide for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd teamer at every position and 4 more scholarships to cover specialist-K, P, LS and returner:

Isn't this what scholarship limits mostly achieved decades ago?

I think the author of this article, does not take into consideration the "PEE" designation or the "stigma" of not beign in a PEE conference...that is what really needs to be addressed...parity was happening in college football until espn designated who was a pee, and who could not take a pee

A proposal to eliminate 1,950 college scholarships given mostly to black men.? Good luck with that.

I am sure they would not mind one bit...it is the name of "equality"

That designation is there and will stay there until there is parity that changes the narrative. Making more talent available to more teams is the best way to achieve that.

It's already been done multiple times.

Unless you get rid of tranfers, and leaving early this would be a total mess, look at LSU the amount of players leaving if you only have a 70 man roster this would not work at all.

You'll also take in transfers. Leaving early is mostly a problem for the upper P5's.

Do what smu and Miami did to be a powerhouse-buy yourself a team.

Times are vastly different. ajc makes a very valid point, like/believe it or not.

The power programs, which have disproportionate amount of power, would never go for it since it would potentially make them less dominant by impacting their depth.

I fully understand that. But I believe it can still be done. As posted above it will be the P5's fighting it. What the G5's have going for it is the massive losses those P5's are facing which would make the cost savings attractive.
