Happy New Year everyone! I'm a student at NKU and I wanted to learn more about Tulane's Rivals and I thought no better way than jumping into this message board. With the help of message board members beginning in 2014, we—the students and professors of the Know Rivalry Project—began answering this question and others related to rivalry in the NCAA FBS. No one knows the rivalries of Tulane better than this message board community. Please help us update and expand our results to ensure that Tulane is included by taking 9 minutes to complete our newest survey:

https://umassamherst.co1.qualtrics.com/ ... 1&mbsrc=mb

Our previous results have been featured in numerous sports media outlets, as well as the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. You can view those results, links to media coverage, and learn more about us at our KnowRivalry.com website BUT we'd prefer you didn't until you completed the survey via the link above... we don't want to influence your opinions provided in the survey.

We use the Qualtrics online survey software for data collection. This academic research has been approved by two US universities' Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and it poses no risks to respondents. You'll find more information on the disclosure agreement that is required to start the survey. There are plenty of other teams you can look into as well on the site if you had other favorite teams. I'd love to know more in this thread about why certain teams are rivals. Tulane may have an obvious rival, but who is the second or third rival? Is there a second or third? Thank you for helping us to include Tulane by participating and please share this with any other fans that may also help.

But, we last played LSU in MBB on January 2, 2008 winning @ New Orleans 68 to 63. https://tulanegreenwave.com/sports/mens ... versity/69 We did play an exhibition game against LSU in MBB on October 31, 2017 winning @ New Orleans 84 to 74. https://lsusports.net/news/2017/10/31/211676103.aspx
We last played LSU in football on October 31, 2009 losing @ Baton Rouge 42 to 0 (“Buffet” Bob Toledo was our coach). http://www.winsipedia.com/tulane/vs/lsu
So, no rivalry games with LSU in MBB or football in over a decade and no relief in sight - some rivalry?🤷🏻‍♂️

Southern Miss then LSU.

We have a ton of younger Tulane fans that really like LSU and don't see them as a rival. I'm 32, and most that are 35 or under don't really see a rivalry.

SMU and Navy could become rivalries really soon. Those are heating up.

Historically #1 would have to be LSU. After that I would put USM as out next historical rival.
Currently rivalries right now would include Navy, SMU, Houston, Memphis, Tulsa.... in that order.

Yeah slightly surprised more folks don’t mentions Navy and SMU. I’d agree with Wave Clems list above. Maybe in the place of Tulsa add in ULL & Miss State

ULL? Nah. Younger fans/alum don't respect them enough.

Miss State would be if we played them more. That needs to change.

LSU for those that remember. After winning 2 out of three the yellow showed up in what they believe is gold. (Sour purple grapes). It is true that they had nothing to win by playing us—except narcissistic pride. Souther Miss because of proximity.

Most of our fan base is older. LSU is without question our arch rival. Public v. Private, 60 miles apart. Over 100 years of history. The point is to get the program in good enough shape to position ourselves to be a worthy opponent for them. Have the public and media pointing out that the series should be played again.

Being a rival implies and requires a mutual relationship. I would like for LSU to be our rival. They once were. Now they are merely an enemy.

ULL is no more a rival than Southeastern or Nicholls. We should play them occasionally (rarely) and then we should humiliate them...much the same way that LSU views Tulane.

Our rivals should be Houston, SMU, Tulsa and Memphis. From that group, a preeminent arch-rival will eventually emerge as the AAC continues to mature. I would prefer it to be Houston.

We play more than one sport. Until very recently we played LSU twice a year in baseball, a sport our fan base cares about deeply. It by far drew our biggest crowds on campus. We had more of our fans for that baseball game than we did for any football or basketball game. So yeah LSU is still our Rival.

Nothing left but ⚾️ baseball, and Dannen, unfamiliar with our “local sports politics”☠️🔪🪓, stumbled and bumbled Tulane’s way into the CST mess and gave LSU an “out” for our home & home series for baseball so LSU could then denigrate its “rivalry” with Tulane for baseball to that of the status with ULALA, UNO, Southeastern, Nichols State, Northwestern State, and McNeese State.

And, for 2020 we were to play LSU @ B.R. in baseball for the Wally Pontiff Classic, and LSU was to get all the money, and Tulane was to get zip, and the message from LSU was “take it or leave it Tulane!”

Some rivalry.

When we last played is meaningless. LSU is our rival.

Our fan base cares more about baseball than most (not all) college sports fans. That being said, in the midst of a season that would end at 15-2, you could count the people in the stands. Heck, even when we went to the post season under Pierce we still had small crowds. It's been a long time, possibly pre-Katrina, since baseball came close to filling Turchin and definitely pre-Katrina since we did so regularly.

Our rival is LSU-BR. It's just on hold for the time being.

If the series is ever renewed, it will be mutual. The bigger requirement, and hurdle, is that rivals need to have some parity--and that rests with Tulane.

Are Tam and UT not rivals because they stopped playing each other ?

LSU is our major rival. We have played them 98 times going all the way back to since 1893.

It's a hell of a rivalry. We just haven't done our part. But there is no question the last team they ever want to lose to in anything is Tulane.

For people under age 35 there is no rivalry. And, for people under age 35 it has been an eternity since we last played LSU for football in 2009.

A couple of years ago I was at Tiger Stadium for a Florida game and had a conversation with a LSU student telling her being a Tulane guy I had trouble pulling for LSU against anyone. She was genuinely shocked and said all the Louisiana teams should pull for one another and most of her friends at LSU held Tulane in high regard. No kidding, this conversation actually took place.🤷🏻‍♂️😂

And, for 18 & 19 year olds 12 years is more than half of their lifetimes. :D
