This might be our best sport.

Schedule recently released. Coach Barnes calls it the toughest OOC schedule to prepare for an AAC championship. I'll let our local VB expert comment on the schedule and our outlook for this season.

Nice to see a 2020 VB thread started. Good job CT.
Also great to see a schedule has been released. Really hope the season plays out.

This schedule is really tough!
Not just because of the big names: USC, LSU, Alabama, Indiana, Texas Tech, Miss St, But also because of teams like SFA who had over 30 wins last year, Long Beach St is scary and the Univ of New Mexico.

Some GREAT HOME MATCHES!
Wish I could be there to see them!! SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 schools coming to Devlin!

Will be interesting to see where the AAC picks Tulane in the Pre-season poll. I think Tulane is 2nd best team next to UCF. But SMU, Houston and Cinci will be very good.

Not sure how many total wins Tulane gets but this schedule will surely give them a chance at an NCAA bid.

Too bad this has ruined the VB schedule. The P5’s have all gone to conference only. So that’s LSU opener out. USC, Alabama, Michigan State, Indiana, Texas Tech, Miss State all out.
I suspect the AAC will follow suit and play conference only as well. Hope they play a full conference schedule. This team can win it all.

localvb, do you think they'll ban the frequent on court huddles? What, if any, affect will that have in how the game is played?

IF the NCAA says they're cancelling the fall sports championships, or moving them to the spring, then that will happen. It's meaningless in FBS football, because there's no NCAA involvement in the 4 team playoff that crowns a mythical champion.

I’ve read on social media from Coach Barnes that they have been practicing 5 days a week for the last 5-6 weeks and they have had 0 positive test.
So I don’t think it will change the game at all.
As long as you can test you can stay ahead of any infections. Even when athletes do test positive it has been almost all asymptomatic and quick recovery’s.
Hopefully the NCAA allows them to play.

So the conference moves volleyball to the spring. But football plays. Not sure how that works.
Now I read that only 6% of Covid deaths were from Covid alone. Makes its less fatal than the flu.

Well at least they don’t have to play in 2020. This year stinks.

The NCAA runs the championship for VB and moved it to the spring . So the conference did what was right and moved VB to the spring. The NCAA does not run the championship for FBS football and more than 50% of the teams are playing so the conference did the right thing and let FB play.

Thanks for the explanation. I’m all for it. Hope football gets to play and play well.
Was really looking forward to seeing this VB team play but will have to wait. I think they have a legit shot to win it all.
Hopefully by spring Covid is a memory.

Just so everyone knows Volleyball is going to be crazy good for the next 4 years.
The 2021 signee’s were just announced and they are the best class in the AAC and better than most Power 5 classes. Some video was posted on Twitter from Volleyball that is scary good.

I’ve seen 2 of the players in junior volleyball and they will be the best 2 players Tulane has ever had. The setter is a show stopper. Check it out.

Sounds like some amazing recruiting hauls ! I know we’ll save the covid stuff for the unbearable thread, but the scary part for young people is the immense lasting mental (depression, brain fog) and physical (heart, lung and more) side effects from covid.

I’ve been around a lot of high school athletes who had Covid and none of them have those results. Almost all of them had zero symptoms. The few that did had mild symptoms for a day. Not one of them have any lingering effects.

How in the world was Tulane able to get a coach like Jim Barnes?

I think he is easily the best coach in the AAC.

I think all the home games are web streamed live.

Here is a video I saw posted on Twitter of one of the incoming players. This kid was one of the top 10 kids I saw in club volleyball.

This video was also posted on Twitter. Is there a better name than Skyler Bumpers for a volleyball player?!

This kid is crazy high and strong!!
