Anyone else got a call from an Athletic Department person? One called me Wednesday just to say they are working toward full football season and once the restrictions are lifted, they are full speed running.

That’s bizarre. If there ever was a sport that needed no fans it’s tennis.
Could easily play matches on TV with empty stands at the very least. Players are far away from one another as is the umpire.
You know better than that. The dozens of personnel needed to operate a professional tournament -- facilities, food, medical, security, coaches, where to house players, etc etc. And that's not counting the people needed on the TV side. It's not plausible.
You wouldn’t need any of that other support staff. This is an individual sport. Players have to be tested before qualifying. Temp’s taken before the start of each match. You of course lock the gates. Necessary Medical personal to wear personal protection. Food is not an issue with no fans. Boxed lunches. Players can bring what they need including drinks. To me it’s looks like they canceled this early to be politically correct. TV ratings would be the tournament’s highest ever.
I don’t understand why some creative promoter doesn’t just get a bunch of athletes, camera people, producers etc. together, get them in a hotel for 14 days. Test them over and over again. Once they are cleared just put on a bunch of events. It would be a ratings gold mine. Perhaps they just feel like one positive test after the 14 days would derail the whole thing.

I asked this question in another thread and got no answer. Rather than start another thread I'll ask again here.

Who'll be hurt worse if there is no season, the bigs or the littles?

The big schools' financial loss will be much bigger than the smaller schools. An Alabama or Ohio State will lose $45+million in TV money AND the ticket sales from gigantic sold-out stadiums.

Tulane will lose Approx. $7 million in TV money and relative chump-change in actual ticket sales.

I guess it depends upon how dependent an athletic department is on football money and how much of a rainy-day fund they have saved but I'm curious to see who weathers this storm better.

The athletic department called today, not to request a renewal or to plead for donations, but to thank me for being a season ticket holder. Very, very nice gesture. I thanked them for the call and replied: "I'm not asking for a reply to this statement, but we both know that there's a pretty good chance there will be no football this year." He chuckled and politely told me that he would keep me updated.

BTW, I received an email today extending the renewal deadline for season tickets:

Dear Green Wave Season Ticket holder,

If the the government still has the country on lockdown I wouldn’t be shocked to see bailout money come the university’s way. The more dependable on government the better. 🤦‍♂️
The SEC extended its self imposed shutdown until May 31st now.

You couldn't pay me enough to get on a flight from NY or Orlando to London. 7 hours in a tube? Not a chance.

Relax. No one is going to want to watch you play tennis on TV. 😉

I'd take the over as long as the season is played.

I would add Memphis at Yulman to that group of 50/50. UCF away is going to be very tough

I just hope we play the damned season. I'm dying without sports. Heck, I'd even watch the NBA at this point.

Oh for sure. Especially with the coaching change. Actually probably better chance than @HOU, @Piss St, Navy.

Just a lot of talent and those boys have won a lot in their 3 years. Another year where 9/10 wins is as likely as 4/5, lots of close games.

It sure would be nice to turn the corner and win 9 or 10 this year. Do we get the QB play needed to do so? Do we get teased once again? The "historic back to back bowl victories" talk has gotten old. We need to take the next step and play in a decent bowl game. Going .500 and beating a team nobody cares about in a bowl game nobody cares about is not moving forward.

Lets ROLL!

It would be nice. It will take more than 9 or 10 wins for us to get to a decent Bowl game based on the league tie-ins. I think there are some changes to that coming up but not sure when . For now the only Bowl we can go to that is noteworthy is by winning the conference and getting the NY6 slot.

I'd take a 10-2 season, which would not get us the NY6 game, but could potentially get us a matchup versus the highest rated SEC team not to make the SEC Championship game (LSU?) in the Birmingham Bowl. I don't think we're ready to win the AAC, and to quote a fellow poster "Show Me".

D- I'm not sure where you get the third highest team from the SEC being in that game. They get the 9th best team and have to go elsewhere if the SEC can't fill that slot. In fact the last three games haven't had an SEC team in it. We agree that we don't appear ready to win the conference. We'd need the offense to explode in Hall's second year and the defense to return to its 2018 form to have any chance to do that.

win, I don't know that the SEC would send their 3rd best team to the Birmingham Bowl. I just thought that if Tulane went undefeated OOC, then 5-2 in the AAC but missed the title game, we'd be ranked, and a good opponent for a good SEC team. We would have beaten Northwestern and Mississippi State and let's say our losses were to Memphis (or Houston) and UCF.

This is all made up. There's no right or wrong answers. And I agree my scenario to get a good matchup versus an SEC team is probably a pipe dream.

Frankly, I hope we're all drinking beers and having fun in Yulman, our living rooms, and wherever we need to be watching our Wave come fall. Boy is this social distancing is bringing to light how much we love things we take for granted.
