We had Bussey then he went elsewhere and didn't do much. There just isn't a lot coming out of there that are at the level we need. Like Nolasteve said no Manning is coming here and there's not much else to get. The few that exist are likely to want to leave NOLA for their collegiate experience. No big deal.

Great article! Thanks!
One mistake by the writer (his dad Juan played baseball at Tulane not FB)
Ibieta didn’t overcomplicate things, committing to the local, familiar program where his older sister Jenna plays for the volleyball team and his father, Juan, played football for the Green Wave in the 1990’s.

Justin shines in opener
https://www.nola.com/sports/high_school ... ail-latest
Ibieta’s passing and running accounted for all four of his team’s touchdowns, plus a two-point conversion and 344 of Country Day’s 421 yards that produced 22 first downs and scoring drives of 58, 65, 77 and 64 yards against the Warriors from District 8-5A.

The Tulane-committed quarterback passed for three touchdowns...
Ibieta completed 18 of 31 passes without being intercepted good for 226 yards and the touchdowns to Conwill, Williams and Dylan Simmons Jr.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder also rushed 19 times for 118 yards with a 2-yard scoring run that accounted for Country Day’s second touchdown in a first half that ended 14-13 in East Jefferson’s favor.

Will be interesting to see if he starts picking up some bigger name offers.

Both of you let us know if you think he's ready to play on a MUCH bigger stage. Unless I misunderstand the HS division rankings, he's playing at a very low level of competition. We know he's an incredible athlete from his accomplishments across Football, Basketball and Baseball. But can he go from 1A high school football to AAC?

Is Leonard Kelly from Karr still not committed?

I still am excited to see more from Ibieta, I hope he comes here and is a 4 year starter and leads us to great heights.

what classification is Newman..I mean Manning Prep ?
Be a Hero Today.... Adopt a Shelter Pet... The Beatles once sang "Can't Buy Me Love"... I disagree, unconditional Love can be bought, for the nominal adoption fee at your local Pet Shelter !

They play up Schedule wise but their enrollment fell just short of 2A so they officially dropped down to 1A for district games.
Newman is barely at 2A yet Manning will be the #1 pick in the NFL draft in 7-8 years. Take that to the bank.

Glad you're getting to go. I wanted to go bad but I have a conflict. Hope it lives up to the hype. Hope Tulane does it's part to accommodate the turnout. At the Houston game someone was telling me about various issues he and his family faced when they went to a HS game there recently.

Then let's offer Arch Manning and try to get him on board!

Yes, he's a HS Freshman. We would not be the first to offer a HS Frosh.

Huge crowd including Sean Payton, Archie Manning, Willie Fritz, Troy Dannen and many more. Glazer Club open to accommodate the large crowd. Great night for Tulane Athletics!
Newman with the better team pulls away to win easy 38-13. It was 14-13 at half. Ibieta tossed two TD’s but had two INT’s. Manning had 2 TD’s and no INT’s. Justin just didn’t have the support Manning did.
With that said If you get a chance make it a point to see Justin or Manning in person. Arch is Peyton reincarnated and only 15 years old. Just incredible. Newman may finally win a state championship in FB. Justin only going get better at Tulane.

I'm just curious; how huge was this crowd? How did it compare to the Houston game? I was at the Houston game and estimated the crowd to be around 8,000.

Huge for a 1A HS game. The Glazer side (Newman) was full. The press box side (CD) was 3/4’s full (no pic)
