Wish he could have gotten a deal like that from Arizona as I've become a fan of the D'backs over the past few years. Atleast he stayed in the NL West though, he's had his most success in that division and when he left it he struggled.

Injury to Padres pitcher Micah Owings has him wanting to return as position player..........
http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/na ... story.html
Owings, 32-33 with a 4.86 ERA in 138 games over six seasons, has a career batting average of .286 with nine homers and 35 RBIs in 205 at-bats. He has been used numerous times as a pinch hitter.

Black said Owings injury, which moved him from the 15-day DL to the 60-DL on May 8, has taken longer than expected to heal. Owings said he doesn’t feel like he will be able to pitch any time soon.

“He indicated a strong desire to get back on the field and hit,” Black said. “He’s highly motivated to do this.”

They are putting him at 1B. Just like Bogey the scouts had it wrong.

Micah is in ST with the Nationals as an outfielder/1B.
He hit his 1st Hr of the spring today. Doubled the other day as well.
He's hitting .300 so far. I think he's had only 10 at-bats though, he missed a few games with a minor injury.

Had his debut in AAA for Syracuse tonight.
Started off great with an RBI single then a 3 run HR, but he finished 2-6. Played both Lf and Rf

@acomak: Micah Owings was granted his release from the #nats. Had been transitioning to full-time position player w Triple-A.
Interesting, I wonder what he's planning on doing now...

Signed a minor league deal with the brewers. Looks like he might get the chance to hit and pitch in that organization.
@BrewersPD: The #Brewers have signed RHP/OF Micah Owings to a minor league contract. He will report to our complex in Maryvale

Nice story here!
http://m.mariners.mlb.com/news/article/ ... d=fb_share
What he did know is that he wanted to give the Majors another try. The last pitch he threw in a big league uniform came with the Padres on April 25, 2012. Almost five years later, he's back in Spring Training, giving it his all. So far this spring, he has a 4.15 ERA in four outings."I love the game, and I love to compete," Owings said. "That's why I was willing to go to York. I wasn't doing it for financial reasons, obviously. Just anything but to go out and compete. It's why I've always enjoyed playing the game."

Nice story, thanks for posting, Tim.

If Micah doesn't get back to the big leagues, I'd love to see him on the Tulane staff. I think he can help with both the hitting and the pitching. IMHO, he was head and shoulders the best player on the team that was ranked #1 all year and came up short in Omaha. That was, by a long shot, Tulane's most talented team. And he was the best player on it.

Bama Bound
Like to proudly announce that at the ripe age of 36, I’m officially a college student again. On a mission to receive my BA or BS from The College of Arts and Sciences, The University of Alabama. It’s been over fourteen years since my last college class. At age 22, prior to signing w/the DBacks I made an agreement with my father & mother that I would complete my education and earn a college degree. I am a man of my word, that’s how I’ve been raised. Huge thanks to Nick Hostetler for informing me about this program that accepted almost ALL of my prior credits. Also like to thank the Georgia Institute of Technology, Tulane University, and now the University of Alabama for my continued education. Haven’t decided yet if I’ll be saying “Roll Tide” hah #GoJackets #RollWave #RollTide

I’m guessing he won’t be following the trend of a few others like Huston Street of joining the baseball staff as a student assistant. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think he’d have mentioned it if so.

Micah made it out to Turchin this weekend for the USF series to see his former teammates Daniel Latham and Billy Mohl compete. He’s working on an individual basis with players. He’s living in Georgia and is interested in entering the college coaching realm at some point in the future.
