That's poor scorekeeping for two reasons:

1. He never reached 2nd base, he was mobbed before doing so but more importantly:
2. For it to be a double, scoring standards require the runner to reach second before the game-ending winning run scores. It doesn't happen with the winning run at second base very often. Crediting him with a double wouldn't stand to scrutiny.

I agree it shouldn't have been scored a double but was just noting it was in fact scored that way.

Baseball weekend recap story from the Athletic
The most surprising result of the weekend? Has to be East Carolina getting swept at Tulane. The Pirates, 37-13 overall and 16-8 in the American Athletic Conference, are still in a good position to host a Regional, but their hopes of being a top-eight seed took a big hit. The RPI is down to No. 12 and figures to drop next weekend with three games against Rice (172 RPI). ECU hosts Campbell (84 RPI) in its final midweek game of the season.
