What’s the Over/Under on how long it will take before agents start getting involved, representing high school recruits, and getting their 10% cut?
All Tulane, All The Time!

It’s a whole new, and very large, market for agents. Can you imagine how some overzealous parents, who think “junior” is the best [ name your sport and position ], will be eager to hire an agent to maximize “junior’s” potential. And not to mention the Nikes and Adidas of the world who will be signing players and coaches. It would seem the new NIL rules would also apply to coaches—Rick Patino gets out of the penalty box. It’s going to be absolutely wild. Dannen will have no chance of keeping up with all of this—in fact many ADs will be in over their heads as Mic Man pointed out.tpstulane wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 8:35 amCan you imagine what Zion or Arch Manning could command.HoustonWave wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 8:32 am What’s the Over/Under on how long it will take before agents start getting involved, representing high school recruits, and getting their 10% cut?
Absolutely. The entire landscape has changed. This reminds me of the TV rights lawsuit many years back (1984) The universities of Oklahoma and Georgia, both football powerhouses, challenged the NCAA plan, saying they believed that they could earn more money if freed from strict limits on numbers of their games available for television. It opened up mega riches for the schools that had forward thinking athletic departments the rest were left behind (G5’s)HoustonWave wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 8:46 amIt’s a whole new, and very large, market for agents. Exactly—begging the question, “can Tulane keep up with this new world order?” This may be what Cowen’s infamous Titanic comment was referring to. There is little doubt that if Cowen were still prez, he’d be unfurling, and preparing to run up, his white flag.tpstulane wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 8:56 amAbsolutely. The entire landscape has changed. "Our QB has already approached ungodly numbers, and he hasn't even played yet," Saban said, per Chris Hummer of 247Sports. "If I told you what it is … it's almost 7-figures."
Not bad for someone who threw for one touchdown as a freshman.
Oh, no doubt. All the schools, including some G5’s, who arrange large NIL and direct university “educational support” payments will beat their chests about it. None of this will be cloak and dagger, like the past. It won’t be enough to arrange such financial payments, the schools will have to boast about it. That’s why Tulane’s traditional “cone of silence” won’t work in the new world order. And unfortunately, it also strongly suggests that we are still contemplating our navel on these issues, since no news is not good news.tpstulane wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 9:42 pm Bama QB already has nearly $1 million in NIL money. Exactly. It’s going to be a great recruiting pitch on how much XYZ player is getting from NIL’s. Maybe Michael Pratt can land some “deals”HoustonWave wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 8:37 amOh, no doubt. If Pratt doesn't land some deals soon, and he has as good a year as many of us hope, look out--a P5 needing a QB will be making big $ offers. The money arms race that we are beginning to witness is going to disrupt all of college football, including the P5 conferences. Even the football factories are going to find that they need every penny that they can squeeze out of the system--it will also pull money from the coaches' salary structure and the platinum-plated facilities. When it comes to recruiting, a school like Tulane might be able to overcome a facilities deficiency by just writing bigger checks--which might be faster and cheaper than huge facilities investments.tpstulane wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 10:25 amExactly. Wow. Great point I hadn’t even thought about the tranfer $$$ angle. The lure of NIL money to transfer could definitely come into play. Amazing the can of worms this has opened for the rich.HoustonWave wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 10:56 amIf Pratt doesn't land some deals soon, and he has as good a year as many of us hope, look out--a P5 needing a QB will be making big $ offers. First off we know Tulane doesn't have big money people that are going to write big $ NIL checks. We need the facilities. The lack of shows up when we play teams early in the season and our players are cramping up and leaving the game in droves and it's not happening to the other team.HoustonWave wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 10:56 amIf Pratt doesn't land some deals soon, and he has as good a year as many of us hope, look out--a P5 needing a QB will be making big $ offers. Tulane doesn't have its own money, or that of deep-pocketed alums, because of 70+ years of administrative mismanagement. We continue to add one bad decision on top of the previous bad decisions--add it all up, and we have severe financial limitations. My only point, is that one silver lining to all this NIL and "educational support" payment madness is that one way to get a recruit or transfer candidate to look past facility deficiencies is to offer them a big check for the next year or two. That may be a far less expensive way to attract high-end talent, than trying to spend tens of millions on platinum-plated facilities. We can improve our current facilities, but we'll never catch the P5ers and what they are building.winwave wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 12:47 pmFirst off we know Tulane doesn't have big money people that are going to write big $ NIL checks. If you wondered how long it would take for a college athletics booster to offer a six-figure name, image and likeness deal to an entire football team, the answer is officially "less than a week". That figure is actually $540,000, and it's coming courtesy of a South Florida businessman with the recipients being the Miami Hurricanes football team.

Excel Sports Management vice president Matt Davis said he believes NIL "will generate millions of dollars for this young man."
"The NIL rules provide a new opportunity for someone like me who has put in so much energy and effort into building a community," Williams told ESPN in a statement. "I am excited to be the first high school athlete to make this move. I love to hoop and I love engaging with my fans and look forward to continuing to share my journey with everyone."
Not really. The few 5 stars will get it but not the guys down the line.
