Put it in the books! Wave takes game 1 of the weekend series by a final of 16-2. The mean Green put an 8 spot on the scoreboard in the 8th to ice the game. Great pitching once again by Olthoff, who went 7 innings, giving up 3 hits and one unearned run and striking out 13. This guy is quickly becoming the Ace of the staff that Tulane hasn't had in a long time.

Wave wins game one, 16 to 2. Looking top 25 tonight, holds Southern to 4 hits, while Wave scores 16 runs on 12 hits. Olthoff goes 7 innings giving up only 3 hits and 1 run to the Jaguars.

What time does the TU-SU SATURDAY game start? 2 PM or 6 PM? I have seen both times listed.

Tulane vs Southern in baseball, basketball and football should be an every year event...it gives Southern, NOLA exposure, and Tulane forced media coverage in BR....

The official baseball websites of both Southern University Jaguars and Tulane Green Wave list the start time as 2 PM CST. Today's game is in Red Stick, and tomorrow's game will be back in Turchin at 1 PM CST.

The ncaa website hasn’t been updated to reflect last nights start. Olthoff previously was 4th in the nation with the leader having 33ks. So depending on the other guys, olthoff likely is leading the nation.

The downside of Olthoff's impressive season is, if he keeps it rolling, he's gone to the MLB draft later this year. As impressive as he's been, he'll probably be a very high, if not first round draft pick. You cannot tell a player to walk away from that kind of money to come back to college for another year.

It's a good problem to have. I hope he leads us to a conference title and hosting a regional (and beyond.)

Our team ERA is 2.83, which puts Tulane in the top 10% of D1 baseball. Where's the troll Pete who was consistently calling for Latham's job last year when Daniel was our first year pitching coach with a proven track record before he came to Tulane?

Not exactly sure why Olthoff isnt getting more publicity, was looking at D1 and Kendall Rodgers and no mention. Not even a top 30 pitching performance mention which makes no sense

He's got to be one of the top 5 pitchers in D1 in a bunch of different categories. But I don't mind if he's flying under the radar. He's an ace like we haven't had since Micah Owings (if only he could hit like Micah!!!) We have a great shot at any weekend series, including post season, with him going Friday nights.

No doubt Olthoff is proving to be a top flight Friday starter the likes of which we haven't seen in a while. Aldrich has been steady. Benoit needs to get back in gear. Janetta will give us that fourth starter we need and could wind up on the weekend staff if Benoit doesn't rebound. The luxury we have is that if one of the starters falters Gillies could go back to that role as he worked hard in the off season to improve physically and mechanically. Then if Trent Johnson gets back to 100% we have another option there. Good situation to have.

If he shuts down Long Beach St he’ll get some good publicity Southern won’t do it.
