Unfortunately the students don’t always have the knowledge, maturity and expertise to make the best decisions for themselves and their communities. Imagine Lindsay Scott trying to make not a recruiting decision, but rather a decision about a not fully understood, unprecedented global pandemic that predominately effects others. . . Yeah sorry kids it’s not up to you. If only we had a competent adult leading the country.
The NFL, MLB & NBA all have player unions with which to enter into agreements to protect and shield the owners from liability for playing during a pandemic. Through their unions the professional players have made an informed and negotiated choice to play during the pandemic with opt out provisions for those who choose not to play. No such organizational structure exits for now for the representation of college athletes. No one can plausibly argue the NCAA represents first and foremost the interests of college athletes over and above those of its member organizations? And, most college athletes are only 18 to 22 in age.DfromCT wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 2:23 pmAlthough the article says 2 hours ago, it's information and links date to August, 5th, a lifetime ago!tpstulane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 1:48 pm SEC and Big 12 next?

If the students can vote, then they should be expected to make the appropriate decision for themselves about whether to go to college this year, or whether they should play a sport. If they are overly worried about either, then they are free to sit out.Bicoastalwave wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 2:56 pm Unfortunately the students don’t always have the knowledge, maturity and expertise to make the best decisions for themselves and their communities. The NHL and NBA were able to complete an 8 game regular season (NBA) and playoffs only (NHL) due to the fact that they could create a bubble. MLB cannot do so, and is failing as a result. The NFLPA declined the option of creating a bubble for each team. They are doomed to have a short season if there's any season at all. It's not nearly as cut and dried as you make it sound. As TULANES EXPERTS told us, the bubble model is the only model that's worked around the globe for sports. No other model stands a chance. This isn't a game. It's very real, and the last 4 weeks have seen a surge in young people getting the virus.Wave755 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 3:07 pmThe NFL, MLB & NBA all have player unions with which to enter into agreements to protect and shield the owners from liability for playing during a pandemic. Tulane's doc, leading the AAC's pandemic response, says student-athletes satisfied with planning--for now the AAC and SEC getting the green light. Damn the torpedoes--full speed ahead.
Tulane is the University of Louisiana
If we go ahead as a loner Conference this would be a great PR error, as the AAC will look as neglecting the student athletes for the almighty dollar. No matter what the Conference says about the student Athletes they still intermingle with the general student bodies of the University. For Fritts to hit hard for students that hold parties and ignore social distancing sounds like an hypocrite if he allows athletes to be put on a pedestal above the rest of the student body for the almighty dollar. Does the University really care about the University no matter what they do can we guarantee the players will not get infected during a game and bring it back to the general student body. They can't the other conferences realyze that and are doing the human thing not only for the athletes but for the University itself!!!

...except that early indicators suggest a lower positivity rate in the controlled team practices than outside of it.gbgreenie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 8:21 pm If we go ahead as a loner Conference this would be a great PR error, as the AAC will look as neglecting the student athletes for the almighty dollar. Also, there are a LOT of people that are looking for something not COVID or BLM related to take their mind away from the disaster that has been 2020. Play in front of no fans and on TV.
You are going to have a captive audience.

I'm reasonably impressed with the bubble and protocols which Coach has described in his daily briefings. At least one thing Tulane is doing very right.
Fan since 1965 and was at the 14-0 Victory over LSU. It can be done.

Does golfnut wear his sheet all day or only at night at bonfire rallies ?
President Fitts , B of A , it's put up or forever hold your peace time . Make Tulane ATHLETICS relevant and top 30 again .
hmmm last time I saw Sheets in person, was when the fine reps of the Democratic party of Jeff parish showed up to burn crosses on my Families property located at 323 Orion St, Metry,LA 70001 ...all because we had people of "color" dine with us at our picinic table...this happened twice, I am told there was third time, but I was not there to see it happen, therefore I cannot confirm it... I will apologize for the term "semi black"..instead, "The Bi Racial One"...nawlinspete wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 8:53 am Does golfnut wear his sheet all day or only at night at bonfire rallies ?

Knock it off with the political and racist crap, There's enough of that in the other thread. Let's stick to the 2020 season or whatever we're calling it.
