The 1979 team that was our first to go to a Regional will be honored:

23-11 overall and 5-2 in a good AAC aren't the problem we face.

Bad pitching and nonconference SOS in the 140s will be what dooms us more than likely.

There has been CLEAR improvement from last year, though - this is more like Tulane baseball.

If our pitching settles down this could still turnout to be a pretty good team.

That is the big IF. The defense needs to get better to if we want to be able to do something if we did make it to a Regional. At least last night we beat a bad team the way we should. They have six pitchers out with injuries. If we are going to make a run at a Regional we need to sweep this type of series. Our conference schedule is front loaded with the weaker teams. So let's rack up those wins.

This game 2 is the worst display of pitching I've seen in a Division I game.

18-11, and this game has LOTS of time left in it. It's so wide open.

Game 2 Final: Wave 20, USF 11

Hoese, Jensen & Glancy homer

Pitching woes continue, to say the least - Gillies gives up 4 runs in 5.1 innings, Raj gives up 5 runs in 1.2 innings & Price gives up 2 runs. Cellucci finally shuts them down.

Wind was blowing out a gale today. I expected this type of game. Still a lot of untimely walks, but we pretty much had control the entire game. And the one run they made, in the 7th, to close the gap from 14-4 to 14-11, we responded immediately with 6 runs of our own.

RPI up to 79 now. As we've been saying all along, keep winning games and by the end of the season the RPI will take care of itself.

In spite of the 30 mph gusts blowing out, Cellucci came in and slammed the door. We continued to hit like no Tulane team since 2005. Jensen had a whale of a day, 4-for-6, 2B, HR and 6 ribbies. On a day when Hoese went 1-for-4 (he did homer), other guys contribute and this “spreading of the offensive wealth” is very encouraging. Daniel Latham, meanwhile, still has a lot of work to do. Lost in all of this is that Gilles gave us 5 decent innings and picked up his 2nd win.

Cincinnati just swept UCF today, winning that series after losing the opener last night 0-15. Our road series win at Cin looks better now that it did originally. CIN is 7-5 in conf.

Certainly glad for the win. We've put ourselves in position to sweep. As I noted above we need to sweep. The hitting is of course fun to witness. The pitching situation is just beyond maddening. The defense doesn't help the situation. It will be a real shame if we end up wasting this type of hitting . We should be able to make a run in the post season with it if the other two phases would step up.

To quote Al Davis (when he was sane!)

"Just win, baby."

Pitching has to get better and we have to define a pecking order in that bullpen to do so.

The point is we won't beat good teams if these pitching and defensive woes continue. We played a weak OOC. We went 1-5 against the only good teams we played. For the most part we started conference play with the weaker teams. After Memphis we get to the tougher teams. No excuse not to have put it together by that point.

The fans aren't the only ones upset with our pitching . The squabble:

You know, its not really the number of hits and walks we give up, its that we give them up in bunches. Today Solesky pitched 5+ innings, gave up 6 hits and a walk, so 7 total batters. Problem was, the walk and 5 of the six hits came in the same inning. We do a terrible job of damage control once the fire starts.

Can't fault the pitching today except for Solesky in the sixth. Five scoreless innings of 1 hit ball before he lost focus in the sixth. Bullpen came in and gave us 3.2 innings of hitless ball, two walks, a HBP and six K's. Campbell with the three inning hitless save.

And, by the way, LSWho loses its rubber match today to Ole Mizzou 11 to 5. 8-)

Ole Ellisshoe is getting their due karma for not scheduling us this year and thinking we will be their gopher for the Wally Pontiff Classic in future years instead of continuing the annual home and away series.

After an 8-0 start, the kids upriver are 16-13 on the season. Yet somehow they're still in the top 15 teams in the country. Go figure.

Got the sweep! Campbell gave us a great effort there to finish it off. Loved watching him slap the sticker on the wall with a bunch of other fans on the TV on the concourse. Fun stuff.

As to Solesky he usually does fall apart after 5 if he makes it that far for some reason going back to his freshman season. He appears to be in the best physical shape he's been in since he's been here. Seems to be mental as it it with the rest of the staff.

Hope everyone is satisfied with the results of this week. 4-0, 6 game win streak, and an RPI of 72, up +33 from last Sunday.
