8+ wins in 6 straight seasons is something Tulane has never come close to. We have had 8 wins in back to back seasons once in 120 years of playing football. I didn't realize Norvell had done put that up, that's quite an accomplishment.golfnut69 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 7:09 amESPN's take

Norvell really stepped into a good situation. Fuente did the leg work. Norvell did a great job of keeping the train rolling. Florida state is a plum job. Dare I say , hall to Memphis ?
He’s only been there 4 years. He took over a good situation and has maintained and added to it.DfromCT wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 9:14 am8+ wins in 6 straight seasons is something Tulane has never come close to. I always feel bad for the players left behind when a coach leaves before the bowl game. I hope that his assistants stay and coach Memphis in the Cotton Bowl game. They're likely going to get routed by Alabama anyway, but it's just tough on the kids to go through what was a pretty damned successful year only to be abandoned before the bowl game.

They’re playing Penn St and he’s staying to coach the bowl game.DfromCT wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:00 pm I always feel bad for the players left behind when a coach leaves before the bowl game. Losing Justin Fuente to Virginia Tech 3 years ago didn't seem to slow them down. It's probably more about establishing a confidence among players, alumni and recruits that the new staff will be just as good as the out-going staff. That comes from the AD and the University President.

If you look at the timestamp on the post you replied to, it was at 12 noon, a good 12+ hours before your response. The pairings had not been announced, but it was widely reported that Alabama was going to the Cotton Bowl. Again, the media (and my post) were inaccurate. And oh by the way, Mike Silverfield was named Interim Head Coach (at least 7 hours before your post). Norvell is NOT coaching the Tigers in another game.greenie78 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 12:27 amThey’re playing Penn St and he’s staying to coach the bowl game.DfromCT wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:00 pm I always feel bad for the players left behind when a coach leaves before the bowl game. Edit: I just read on the ESPN website that Norvell may return to Memphis to coach the bowl game. If he does, good for him, class move, and a difficult one after being introduced as the new FSU HC. Especially since FSU has a bowl game, and he's already talking about making connections with the HS football coaches in Florida.
And man, does he have a lot of grey hair for a 38 year old!

I think Norvell will regret this...the swag bag is damn nice

I think the coach that stays and coaches his team in the bowl game after accepting another job is by far the exception to the norm. Especially with the early signing period, they want to get started at their new job ASAP. Tommy wasn't the first to leave before the bowl game, and I'd bet 95%+ do so once they've accepted their next stepping stone.

so will the DC, no bag for him

At least Memphis promoted the new HC from within, so that would end all of the Will Hall to Memphis nonsense on there internet.

No idea how it will turn out but it looks like they gave in to the notion of hire someone who will stay rather than the best coach available. Could turn out to be in our favor.

The new Memphis coach was their OL coach and will need to hire a whole new offensive staffgolfnut69 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 2:47 pmLooks like it will be officialAberzombie1892 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 11:35 am At least Memphis promoted the new HC from within, so that would end all of the Will Hall to Memphis nonsense on there internet.

including anOC. Would Hall go back there if they upped his pay from Tulane?

Who cares. Our offensive gameplan and development was incredibly pedestrian.Jaxwave wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 10:25 pmThe new Memphis coach was their OL coach and will need to hire a whole new offensive staffgolfnut69 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 2:47 pmLooks like it will be officialAberzombie1892 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 11:35 am At least Memphis promoted the new HC from within, so that would end all of the Will Hall to Memphis nonsense on there internet.

Hiring “someone who will stay” as opposed to the “best man” for the job is exactly what we did in 1980 for saying no to Lindy Infante and again in 1998 for saying no to RichRod. And, we all know how those decisions turned out. Let’s hope our rival Memphis obtains the same results.
