Seems pretty Huey Long-like to me.
Thoughts?

It’s an election year in a red state with a blue governor. He’s doing all he can to get elected.

Huey Long, you mean John McKeithen. he was the LSU Governor!!!

McKeithen embraced Huey’s vision for LSU to dominate the college sporting world. McKeithen oversaw an LSU football program that whipped Bear Bryant two of the last three times they met at the close of his tenure in Baton Rouge.
Coach Charles McClendon accepted McKeithen’s obsession with LSU football. The governor was as consumed in beating Alabama as he was in building the Louisiana Superdome and landing a plethora of plants still operating along the Mississippi River. Football practices and road games became essential to his duties as chief executive.
When LSU endured a devastating opening night defeat at Tiger Stadium to Texas A&M in 1970, McKeithen reacted to the 20-18 upset by the Aggies by punching out a window in the governor’s limousine. His pugilistic instincts served him well when he earned a pair of Bronze Stars in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. They were less endearing to editorial writers a generation later who didn’t take losses by the Tigers quite as personally as Louisiana’s flamboyant governor did.

McKeithen actively recruited players for LSU, and against us. At least that’s what then Tulane coach Jim Pittman told us. John Bell Edwards meeting with LSU players once having been recruited for a tour of the governor’s mansion is a very different thing.

Edwards is polling about 38% right now for re-election in “ruby red” Republican Louisiana. Understandably Edwards is fearful he is just a “fluke” governor for simply having had the good fortune of running against a very unlikable and morally flawed David Vitter.

This actually gets me going on another issue, the backwards do nothing LA legislation’s inability to pass sports betting. NOLA has millions of tourists eager to enjoy their time and bet but the nutjobs in the rural areas can’t get it passed for fear their equally nutty constituents won’t re-elect them. Freakin Mississippi was able to get it done, let that sink in. We are bottom three in almost every quality of life category yet nothing changes. Can u imagine the tax revenue that could be generated with sports betting in NOLA and the best part it would largely be generated from money visiting the state. It’s mind blowing

Because he is just a “fluke” governor for simply having had the good fortune of running against a very unlikable and morally flawed David Vitter. And he could be fortunate enough to win again, depending on who the Republicans run.

Yep, Edwards needs as an opponent another very mean unlikable Republican with a big unresolved “hooker problem.” :D

And, for Louisiana Hillary Clinton received 38% of the vote in 2016, right where Edwards is polling for now. The “generic number” for a Democrat running statewide for Louisiana is 38%.

This is a totally unacceptable action on the part of the governor. I called the governor’s office and spoke to a rep from the Office of Constituent Relations. I asked when will the governor invite the freshman football players from SLU, his home parish university, to lunch. What about La Tech, ULL, ULM, Nichols State, etc? Is
he going to ignore the state’s black universities?

I believe the governor should be called out for doing something that stupid, especially during an election year. I remember the damage Gov John McK did to Tulane and the other football programs in the state. Edwards is governor of the entire state; he is not simply LS👞’s executive.

I hope others express their outrage to his office and any other democratic representatives, who desperately want to hold on to their only state wide elective office in the state!!
