Re: AAC Media Day Show with Tulane football discussed

FIU is going to tell us a lot. If we clearly look better and win by 10 or more, we can probably compete for conference. If we struggle but pull it out, it will give confidence but we will probably have to work hard and get some breaks. If we struggle and lose, we're probably a 50/50 conference team.

Just win. 8 isnt some magic number. Win 7-9 games a few years in a row and good things will happen. Plenty of teams have done this in our conference and so can we.
I agree with this. Winning 7+ games every year is a LOT different than winning 8.

Re: 2019 FB Schedule

To build a fan base we need to do something Tulane Football has NEVER done: Win 8 games or more three plus years in a row. I think Fritz can accomplish this, assuming he stays long enough to do so. Let's hope 2019 is the first of a string of 8+ win seasons. Other than teams that just dominate a wea...

Re: CFN's AAC Coaching Rankings

We should discuss placekicker in more depth or in another thread. Because that is still one of the biggest ? going into the season. Can we reliably make field goals from 40 yards in ? That's a question we've had since Cairo graduated. It also ties us to the SuperDome. Kickers wanted to come to Tula...

Re: CFN's AAC Coaching Rankings

This coaching staff has: 1) Taken joke special teams and made them respectable 2) Maintained a defensive front 7 that withstands graduation without disaster (maybe still getting better) 3) Recognized that they could not get the type of QB needed to run the offense they wanted, so they changed the OC...

Re: New Commitment

I read an article recently that spoke of the differences between premier and non-premier football programs. They claimed that the biggest differences were with the O-linemen. There are so few to go around and the premier schools had them. It even noted that it makes lesser D-linemen look better beca...

On Jeopardy tonight under the category of athletic teams for $1000, "What is the Green Wave" was the question to the colorful name of the college team in New Orleans.
Well, was the question answered correctly ?
Yes it was answered correctly on the first guess.

If he can beat the Alabama A&M's on the schedule, have a chance to win most every game and pull a big upset or two and show REAL improvement as the season goes on, most people will be satisfied with this season. Anything more than that is bonus. Coach Hunter would say that is settling for something ...

Re: UCONN board approves move back to Big East

You have to wonder how many people at UConn are pushing this. We all know how easy it is in today's social media environment to make a small group seem like the overwhelming majority. When Cowen suggested that Tulane go down in football, even he put it out there in public first, which allowed a pub...

Re: UCONN board approves move back to Big East

That is really a devastating piece and I can't disagree with any of the points made. This move by UConn reminds me of something Tulane Athletics would have done in the recent past, and actually did do when it withdrew from the SEC over 50 years ago. Times and the economics of college sports have cha...

On Wednesday, I was on the 247 Sports football recruiting site and noticed that UConn was not listed in the AAC grouping. I figured but was just a mistake, but obviously not. I wonder if they have already stopped football recruiting.

I get how it is. I guess my question is why is the NCAA allowed scholarship number so limited for baseball? I understand there are less players, and the teams are smaller. The current setup is just... strange. On the surface, it does seem strange. Title IX required men's scholarships to get cut in ...

If I turn on ESPN, I want to see sports. I don't want to see "experts" or former professionals talking about sports. Remember in the early days of ESPN, if you turned it on at 3 AM in the summer, you saw Australian football. Now, you will see reruns of some talking head telling you HIS OPINION of wh...

Re: Do We Keep Jewett?

The team has improved in the last 2 years. The pitching has not. Being that this recruiting class will be the first where Latham has input as to what we have and what we are bringing in, I think there is enough reason to keep Jewett. If he can demonstrate to Troy that he has a clear plan, that could...

It's all that local recruiting that so many keep demanding. I couldn't care less where a kid comes from if he can play and be a good student. Stop harping on that local recruiting thing and get recruits from states with good school systems.

Re: Warnings Sound for College and Pro Football

It's interesting that American football has been played for over 100 years and only recently has this become a problem. It would seem that until about 30 years ago, football was being played by athletic guys with particular skills. They just went out there and played. What changed? There are a coupl...
