Re: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Discussion

I've been wondering for a number of years what's going to be the spark that flips the switch on University education? It's been going crazy cost wise (Tulane is now over $70k/year for room, board and tuition) and there's been no shortage of predictions that by the end of this century colleges will ...

Louisiana closes bars, casinos, and movie theatres, and restaurants are take out only. This will be in place to at least 4/13/2020.

Re: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Discussion

It's up to 114 cases in Louisiana, and that's not even close to accurate. Hopefully, social isolation will help this pass by.

Although I acknowledge the accuracy of the chart that tps posted, I believe it to be as relevant as one that shows the number of automobile fatalities by people driving Bentleys. Re: NCAA tournament to be held without fans

I predict the NCAA Tournament will not take place. The NCAA is already taking heat for not having cancelled the games. Virtually all colleges have suspended classes, many have said that the rest of the semester will be strictly online. If it's not safe for kids to go to classes, how can it be safe ...

Re: Newsletter: Could a new AAC Football team be on the way?

ODU is neat, but it doesn't make sense to look at 2nd tier G5 programs unless it's clear that Boise State and SDSU are off of the table, and, even if they are off the table, Buffalo, Air Force, UNLV, and Colorado State each are intriguing options in their own way to the extent that ODU would not be ...

Re: Jett Duffey denied admission

I wonder if he can stay at Texas Tech for his final season? He obviously doesn't want to because he's buried on the depth chart. I also think ANYWHERE he went, he'd have to earn the starting job, even at Tulane. I am sure that Fritz and Dannen could approach the admissions folks (and yes, we have p...

Tulane didn't mess this one up.

...And Cincinnati's coach is the frontrunner.

If someone asks why the AAC can't build powers in football, it's because the AAC cannot afford to keep its coaches - both in terms 0f salary and in terms of access to games that matter on national level.

Re: Newsletter: Could a new AAC Football team be on the way?

Does adding Boise, BYU and SDSU make us P6 ? Wtf even is P6 ? The Big East was for The first year we were there. If we continually have ranking higher via algorithms than The Acc and the PAC 12 does that makes us P6 ? Where are the goalposts ? Is it ratings ? What ratings do we need ? Do we just ne...

Re: Newsletter: Could a new AAC Football team be on the way?

At a high level, BYU wouldn't be added to the AAC for the same reasons that it's not currently a member of the PAC12, B1G, or Big 12, so, if the AAC needed to add 3 teams in the West (and all non P5/Notre Dame programs were on the table), then Boise State, SDSU, and one of Colorado State/Air Force/U...

Re: What were the the fundamental circumstances

Title IX could have played some part. But clearly the football factories realized there was far more money to be made in a restructured NCAA. Once Oklahoma and Georgia destroyed the NCAA TV monopoly, then it was just a matter of what is the optimal (from a TV revenue standpoint) conference structur...

Bummer we didn’t land Rogers (who would have had to sit). Bizarre we lost him to UNLV, there must be some coaching connection/bagman
To be fair, the rumblings were that his injury from high school was still impacting his performance, and that that was well he fell down TCU's depth chart.

Re: What were the the fundamental circumstances

Do you think it is coincidental that the enforcement of Title IX and NCAA v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma, 468 U.S. 85 (1984) happened at the same time period? I don't. For the sake of exploring that topic, how do you believe that Title IX led to the separation of the conferences?...

Re: What were the the fundamental circumstances

Well, the mechanism that they used was their value. By consolidating into fewer conferences, the NCAA/Networks would be willing to give them more concessions than other conferences by offering less to those other conferences. The access bowls agreed to the current format of being affiliated with P5s...

I have provided several times respected metrics that ranked him at the #17th best QB in football last year. He was branded untouchable/toxic once we passed on him. We were his first choice, even over perhaps interested P5s? I don't believe Tulane was his first choice or that Tulane was either the f...

Re: Newsletter: Could a new AAC Football team be on the way?

It would only make sense to add if Tulane kicked out Tulsa and took Boise State and at least SDSU. Yeah, like Tulane has the power to kick out anyone in the AAC! Tulsa, until recently has owned Tulane in football and basketball. There's no way we want two EXTREME outlayers in the conference like SD...
