Just got a commitment from the 3* punter that was in town this weekend, Ryan Wright. Second highest rated punter in the country according to 247.

I'm guessing that means we won't be getting the Nebraska committed kicker who was also here. Will Wright kick FG too? Huge news that we could finally land a highly rated kicker but a little disappointing if he only punts.

Not sure why you think that. Barrett Pickering, the NEB commit, is only a PK guy. I would think we need both?

I have a feeling we may be seeing a lot of trick plays out of the special teams. This kid is a 6'3 240 punter who is also listed as a pro-style QB. 247 rates him the 2nd best punter in the country. He had an official visit at Arizona a few weeks back.

That's my question. Are we at a place where we have 2 scholarship kickers? If so that's wonderful. Just didn't think we'd give out a scholarship for purely a punter.

You don't think a guy that can flip the field with solid punting is worth a scholarship? I mean, we use scholarships for long snappers.

+1. If Tulane signs Scott and Daniels, it will have 5 qbs on scholarship (even if GC moves on.) I'm all for signing another PK too. If so, I'd bet Neenan leaves before Block but I'd be surprised if both stayed in those circumstances.

I hate to say it but Aidan Gale who kicked for U High looked better against De La Salle than current Tulane kickers. I'm not advocating going after him but simply there are kickers out there. Fritz has to be able to find someone that can upgrade that position.

From what I saw on Twitter, GC is looking for someplace else to play next year as a grad transfer.

Definitely 100% believe we need it. We lose too many close games every year, better kicking in those games would flip the script. Didn't we have some 20 yard punts against SMU?

Just surprised/impressed Fritz is taking such initiative to fix a glaring hole. Damn, Toledo/CJ really, really lowered my expectations of this program.

I not only don't blame him one bit, I wish him well. I hope he finds a home where he can play out his last year of eligibility. He won't see the field at Tulane next year, and he deserves a chance to play. Hopefully he'll not only find a place to play, but earn a graduate degree that serves him well for years to come.

Not that this issue is on topic, but I would be really surprised if GC finds a place to "play" next year. Consider what circumstances it would take to bring in a senior QB to a new system to play for 1 year. You would need to find a coach who thinks he has everything in place to be competitive in his conference for this one year except a pocket QB who is new to the system. Then you start over with a new QB the following year. QB is just not a position that you try to bring in a 1-year guy, unless it's Drew Brees.

I can see him looking for a change of scenery that his intelligence and experience could earn him. If he earns playing time, good for him.

I hope it works out for him. After the last game he talked about hoping to maybe get on as GA here. I guess that didn't work out.

Yes, I'd use a scholarship on players that only punt, placekick and long snap. Ideally you find a long snapper that can fill in as a backup at multiple O-line positions. But special teams, as we've witnessed the past 5 or so years, are not very special unless all three of those positions are filled with talented specialists. Cairo Santos was approaching the NCAA record for consecutive FG's made (including 3 or 4 over 50 yards in the streak) when it was foiled by a bad snap at Syracuse. Each piece of the puzzle must fit.

There is a kid at Destrehan that has already taken an unofficial visit. He plays DL and LB and he is the deep snapper on punts, field goals and extra points. Currently he is working with Ryan Rome who was the holder for Santos and finished his career at McNeese St as a graduate student.
