7-0 17th ranked south Florida hosting Houston. Nice weather. Empty. Times have changed. Yulman will NEVER be too small whether the program turns around or not.

Part of it is they do play in a 70K+ seat NFL stadium, so it looks emptier than it is, but you are correct. USF has had problems all season with attendance. They could barely get 30K to their homecoming game, as an undefeated ranked team.

Colorado state has a georgeous new 38k seat stadium. It looks about 80% full today. They seem to be doing something right. Maybe perceptions are different up north.

They're playing Air Force. Conference and in-state rivals that are only 150 miles apart. Sort of like when we used to play USM, but add the in-state aspect to the mix.

Let's go to the NCAA numbers...an average of a whopping 42,000..take out the top 10 attendance schools and you are looking at about 35,000

With the birth of the BCS in 1998, any program not in the BCS became "de facto division 2."
Later everything morphed into P5 & G5 with G5 being the new "de facto division 2."

This. Everyone is so concerned about the the AAC being in a different division than the P5 in the future, but it is already there, and, unfortunately, unlike in the BCS, there is no way for a G5 to become a power confeenxe

Even if, hypothetically speaking, the AAC was given access to the playoff system and was designated as a power conference, it would consistently be the worst P6 due to financial issues. Even if TV money significantly decreased over time across all conferences, the P5 would still have more of it, more game day revenue, and more bowl revenue.
