Greg Lansing from Indiana St is the name on Twitter. Fits the Dannen profile. Not a splash hire, but big improvement over Conroy.

I agree with you 100% but you never seem to feel this way when we are fighting a P5 for a football recruit.

There's a difference. First, players want to play. Then, they want to play against the best competition. A player good enough to be recruited in basketball probably isn't going to sit the bench for four years, he's going to get to play. A marginal player can go to a P5 and sit the bench forever. Or until they come to their senses and transfer.

Interesting bio... Iowa native (The Dannen connection) , his dad's a high school head coach, he's been a winner. His teams are obviously disciplined enough to follow a game plan, as evidenced by beating a ranked opponent four years in a row. We could do worse.

While I agree with everything you say, Tim, I want to raise a flag that we're about to hire a coach that's 3 games under .500 the last two years. Coincidence or not, those are the only two years when the previous HC's recruits were out of the program. I'm not saying it won't be a great hire, just raising a flag. I know nothing about his ability to recruit, sell the program to the locals, etc.

Or would there be any interest in Kevin Stallings of Vandy, if he gets let go?

Kevin Stallings told @CBSSports there is "no truth whatsoever" to the report that he has been fired by Vanderbilt.

Troy Dannen continues to knock it out of the park. To be clear, I have no idea whether Dunleavy winds up a good college coach but Dannen is quickly rebranding Tulane Athletics as a destination job run by and for professionals.

At a minimum, we have a former NBA coach of the year on the sidelines in Fogelman. Meanwhile, it's only been 24 hours since someone thumbed their nose at the idea of someone choosing Tulane over Valporaiso.
I'm in that camp. I don't see the Valpo coach jumping ship at a better gig to come to Tulane. Maybe in a few years it will be more attractive, but right now Valpo is a better job than Tulane. If you argue that, you don't follow College Basketball.

To turn around your argument, a former NBA coach of the year would never in a million years take the Valpo job.

You are missing the point entirely. The Valpo job was never ever ever a better job than Tulane, it's just that Tulane's previous "leadership" was so toxic and counterproductive and full of terrible ideas that ANY job was preferable to Tulane, because Tulane was a place where you couldn't win under those circumstances.

Now that Cowen and Dickson are gone and the intent to be successful has returned, we can land much much bigger fish than Valparaiso. Who won more games during Tulane's 15 year nightmare is irrelevant to the conversation.

(edit) YET YOU'RE ABOUT TO ARGUE IT WAS FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS, MAKING MY POINT FOR ME! THANK YOU!!!

Ok, JJ. You think you're right. I say any college basketball fan in the country will tell you Valpo is a much, much, much better basketball school than Tulane. Easier to get into the only tournament that matters, better recruiting situation, better history. And yes, I think if offered both jobs, family considerations aside, Dunleavy would pick Valpo over Tulane.

The green glasses might be a knee jerk reaction coming out of the Stockholm Syndrome.

Have you ever been to Valparaiso Indiana? I have not and am pretty certain that no job offer could ever get me to go. At this point, you are arguing that a guy like Dunleavy would ever consider Valpo which looks comical at best. Just because Tulane sold itself as a dime store operator job for 15 years doesn't mean that the job isn't far more valuable than that.

You, And every other Stockholm Syndrome suffering Tulane fan don't seem to understand what Dannen is selling.

For reference, I know a guy from Indiana who said no one would WANT to go to Valparaiso, Indiana, unless they had no other choice.

I agree. I moved the Dunleavy talk into the Dunleavy thread.
