For a QB that size to be listed as a three star, this might just be the QB that Fritz sees being a 4 year starter. Folks are going to complain that he doesn't have offers from P5's. I think his height will work to our advantage. To find a true 3 star QB to run this offense would go a long, long way to covering up deficiencies on the O line. They don't have to win the battle at every position, just at the point where they create the mismatch the plays are designed for.GreenPuddleSplash wrote:We got our 5th commitment today from Amare Jones from Frisco, Texas. What I've noticed about his highlight tape is that he's already well versed in RPO and he's very shifty. He also has a pretty decent arm for throwing off his backfoot. I'm not so sure about the competition level he plays at in Texas, so maybe one of our Texan brethren can enlighten us.DfromCT wrote:For a QB that size to be listed as a three star, this might just be the QB that Fritz sees being a 4 year starter. Watch the interview with Scout. On the one hand, it was done four weeks ago, so maybe his commitment is much firmer. On the other, it sounds like UH or U-Dub, both of which were flirting with him, could take him away. Let's hope he sticks.

I saw somewhere that he's projected as a RB at the collegiate level.

I read that as well. At the same time, after watching his films, I think he might be the perfect fit for Fritz's offense at QB. Let's see if Coach Fritz feels the same way. His arm looked plenty strong and accurate, and his speed and evasiveness might be exactly that our porous offensive line needs. It was a highlight reel, which always makes the player look as good as possible, but this kid looks like the real deal.
Edit: You couldn't possibly put together a highlight reel of our QB play last season that looked anything close to as good as Mr. Jones's HUDL film.

This, and it's particularly true if Tulane loses to either FIU or Grambling.Jaxwave wrote:Try not to get too excited until these 3 stars sign. Until then I figure we are their backup plan if better offers don't come along. That way you won't be disappointed on signing day like most years.

Nice pickup. These are the kind of athletes that we can build a strong program around. I feel good anytime we get someone who has another offer from an AAC school, especially early. I get concerned when we are the only FBS offer.

So far, 247 only lists 5 players (no Quiett). Our average grade is 82.56, compared with last years 78.55.
I was looking at the top schools. Most have 10-15 commits so far. LSU has 22 hard commits? I'll bet as we get closer to signing day some of those guys will find out their commitment isn't mutual. LSU has 13-3*, 9-4*, 0-5*. That's less than half their class at 4-5*. By comparison, Ohio State has 13 of 14 at 4*+, Oregon State 9 of 15, Texas 8 of 11, Miami 14 of 18, and so on. Less than half doesn't seem too good for them.

when it comes to recruiting, I remember what Jeff Bower used to say..."I don't want Ball Players, I want Kids that can PLAY BALL "...and there is huge ass difference...anyone on their school/ playground team is considered a Ball Player, a few can actually Play Ball..of course back in the day there were no recruiting experts handing out stars for attending a particular camp

Most importantly, Fritz is making progress with local recruiting. This past recruiting class with only two Louisiana kids was unacceptable. The High School games at Yulman should help.
This guy looks like a real player.
2 La recruits as a long-term proposition is unsustainable. But last year was a re-set year that had to be done. Apparently some local HS coaches were getting full of themselves (again) and shoving FCS and basket-cases our way.

We are all familiar with the Statue of Liberty, a gift from the people of France...There was a Statue of CJ holding an upraised torch, on Willow or Ben Weiner Dr it was called the " Statue of Inability" ..the plaque read..."Send me your weak and out of shape".DrBox wrote:This guy looks like a real player.

Quite possible that they underestimated Fritz' resolve to only take players that can meet his needs, and if he can't get them in-state, he'll go out of state. Once the local HS coaches saw that Fritz wasn't going to take their marginal players, they decided to play fair.DrBox wrote:This guy looks like a real player.
