Given how bad we have looked in the interior so far this season, I am wondering if we should consider Austin Nichols, who was dismissed from UVA program about 10 days ago. He was dismissed - I think that means he doesnt have to wait a year to start playing for another school (am I right?) - likely because of a drug issue - so Dunleavy has to do his due diligence about whether the kid deserves another chance. Some of you may remember Austin as the guy who scored the last six points including the game winner in a 57-55 Memphis win over Tulane 2 seasons ago. I remember thinking the guy was super clutch. I think only an infusion of interior talent can save this season. Austin will only have 1.5 seasons of eligibility left - so he will probably not hinder the playing time of Sehic and the two NJ big men recruits a lot. I think he may be able to move to Tulane after finishing this semester at UVA if he wants the credits to carry over.
Also, FWIW, the guy was named to the shortlist (top 20) for the Karl Malone award (given to the top College PF in the country) - gives you an idea of the talent level.

I know you were probably just trying to be funny but the dude spent the first 13/14 years of his life in war torn South Sudan, a country only 5 years old. He may very well have been malnourished for large parts of his development. A generation or two of that kind of instability takes its toll.Robert1969 wrote:But will he survive the famine? Dude! Interesting idea. On the one hand Dunleavy's experience in the NBA should bode well for dealing with guys with these sorts of issues. On the other hand he couldn't make it work on 2 teams already, not a good sign. He was a top 25 recruit, absolutely killed it as an underclassman at Memphis, and would fill a huge need for this team immediately.uptownprof wrote:Given how bad we have looked in the interior so far this season, I am wondering if we should consider Austin Nichols, who was dismissed from UVA program about 10 days ago. It's a big risk/big reward type of move. If I'm MD I'd have to know that his issues at Virginia weren't just partying related because we all know what New Orleans can do to that kind of person. I don't know, it's the kind of move that could make or break Dunleavy's Tulane career. As a fan I'd be hesitantly excited.

In the end, I am sure there will be another program, with more upside, willing to take the risk as he is a potential stud.
Oh I agree we have nothing to lose. Dunleavy on the other hand could potentially lose control of the team and his job.mbawavefan12 wrote:What do we have to lose, seriously?Ruski wrote:Interesting idea. Another transfer possibility: Yankuba Sima - 6-11 Center from St. John

We just played em - so Dunleavy has had a chance to scout him. But cant help us this season since he will have to sit out till next December.

If he played this season, despite being dismissed, I'm pretty sure he's not eligible to play for another D1 program this season. As for next year, I'm not sure. I think at worst, were he to enroll in January he'd have to sit until January 1, 2018. But I'm far from expert in this.uptownprof wrote:Given how bad we have looked in the interior so far this season, I am wondering if we should consider Austin Nichols, who was dismissed from UVA program about 10 days ago. An offer for 2018. Dunleavy obviously still looking for big men.

And already working on 2019. That means what, this kid is currently in 10th grade?

Why are we doing better with foreigners? Maybe because foreigners understand and value education more than Americans do.

You quoted the same article twice, but that's ok. I like this part:
Langton has also been selected for the Hoopsfix All-Star Classic for the past three years, cementing his status as one of the top junior talents in England. He’s quickly become known for his polished offensive repertoire, using footwork, post moves and displaying a shooting touch out to the three point line.

Not sure how JuCo works. RS Frosh would mean he didn't play last year. Can he transfer immediately to a D1 school for next season?
