Has anyone else noticed that Kansas seems to be getting a lot of talented Louisiana players to commit? I can certainly understand one or two, but it currently has 4 Louisiana prospects committed (11 total commits) that are 3*s on the 247 Composite that each have been rated by at least two of the four recruiting sites. Yes, it's true that Kansas plays in the Big 12, but it's not like Kansas is expected to have a serious run at bowl eligibility this year and it didn't win -any- games last year.

CB Michael Lee (New Orleans) - Ranked #18 out of all Louisiana recruits
WR Travis Jordan (Marrero) - Ranked #31 out of all Louisiana recruits
SDE Troy James (Baton Rouge) - Ranked #71 out of all Louisiana recruits
WR Takulve Williams (New Orleans) - Ranked #72 out of all Louisiana recruits

In contrast, we have two of the top 93 Louisiana recruits, with the highest being #49 Caleb.

Each one of these guys held a Tulane offer except for Michael Lee.

EDIT: Added player rankings information.

Be a Hero Today.... Adopt a Shelter Pet... The Beatles once sang "Can't Buy Me Love"... I disagree, unconditional Love can be bought, for the nominal adoption fee at your local Pet Shelter !

Kansas hired Warren Easton's HC as an assistant coach.

Did Fritz hire any Louisiana staff? I don't believe that he did.

I think some of his coaches have previously coached in Louisiana, so there are some connections. But not a local HS coach.

That's my understanding too.

That approach - not hiring a recent coach from Louisiana - will likely not make a splash with Louisiana recruits.

This is beginning to look like the first mistake of the Dannen/Fritz era. There are 8 commits so far, which is ~33% of the class, so there's enough to say it's a trend.

Recruiting rankings "overall" aren't accurate because it takes into account number of commits. The truest rating is the 247 average player rating, which for 2017 is currently .7743. That's easily the lowest average player rating at Tulane since Bob Toledo and pretty consistent with the average player rating during the Toledo era.

You hope a couple of these guys blow up in the fall as seniors and make this look different.

I don't know if it is -that- bad, especially since several of our commits aren't rated on the 247 Composite (although one of our current 3*s will fall to a 2*), but, at this rate, it would be surprising if the final composition of the class was at least 50/50 2*/3*.

Do we know how big of a recruiting class we are taking in or projected number of recruits we're taking this year? I do agree that WF not having a local person on his staff definitely hurts his local recruiting, but somehow I doubt he is just sitting there being idle. Seems like he is already developing relationships with local area coaches so that eases my concerns. The guy just got here and so far he hasn't done anything to tell me he's not on the right track.

I think right now we would be able to take 20. However I would expect the number to go higher so it will be a large class.

I would think the number would be higher than 20. Aren't we short on scholarship players? I thought I read this week that the roster is only 79 (of 85) scholarship players. Might be down to 78 after the RB left.

Small senior class. Expect some of the RS juniors to go.
