I know there's been a lot of concern here regarding the quality of this class, after last year. This update comes right after the announcement of Darius Hodges. Looks like we're getting closer to matching last years quality. And definitely far better than anything in recent years.

YEAR NATL RK AVG

2019-81-.8198
2018-69-.8265
2017-112-.7855
2016-97-.7956 (Fritz' first class, w/o time to fully recruit)
2015-91-.8002 (CJ's last class)

To update this, with the addition of 3* DT Eric Hicks (.8315), our 14 recruits now average .8206. Not included are the two grad transfers, but I did some checking and McCleskey was rated at .8528 when he signed with OSU in 2015. Couldn't find anything on the Montano kid from Brown.

On the yoggie forum, FearTheWave maintains a very thorough, up-to-the-minute spreadsheet of this season's football recruits. It's a great reference and he includes each player's 247 eval score. Here's a link:

This is a great resource. Fortunately, we're bringing in 4 O-Linemen, let's hope they can play right away. I would think the Grad Transfer from Brown should be able to step right in. Our young D linemen did well this year, let's hope our O-line can mirror that success.

8 Slots yet to fill.

If the recruit doesn't announce his commitment, we won't find out until Wednesday. Tulane coaches have said that too many times, they have lost a recruit because other schools used our scouting to find guys they should go after once we announced the verbal commitment. The word is that Tulane already has their 25 verbals but is just sitting on it until they are signed.

I hope we have 8 recruits that we're "stashing" until signing day. That would mean that the coaching staff really feels those 8 are worthy of being stolen!

I have heard similar from former coaches who are currently on bigger staffs. Said Tulane land schools like them) usually have to jump on players early and hope them don't 'bloom' to early. Coach sadly told me he is using Tulane to look at future prospects.

I know Dante Wright signed with Colorado State. Did WR Kory King from Fort Bend Marshall (southwest of Houston) sign with anyone? At one time I thought he was a Tulane commit. Ft Bend Marshall will be playing in the state championship game this weekend. Did Fritz and staff back off from the smaller WRs?

So far, I don't see where he's signed with anyone. 247 doesn't have him signing.

Just a quick note. With the latest addition of Caleb Thomas (.8298) we move up from 85 to #78 in ranking. Still 9th in AAC, but just a few fractions out of moving to #7

So 2019-78-.8210 is the updated total, inching closer to last years class.

Just watched 247 highlights on Caleb Thomas. Has the body to play inside on the DL with some good moves to get penetration and a low center of gravity to play stoutly at the point of attack. Doesn’t appear to have the foot speed to play on the outside. Get him up to 290 and we have another pretty good DT, assuming he’s not needed inside at G on offense.

Thanks for the update. Yet last year we finished 3rd or 4th and this year so far we are 9th. That's not impressive. It's imperative that we get off to a good start next year with the new OC and then hopefully see the payoff recruiting wise.

If he winds up on defense we will have one hell of a rotation from zero to five. My guess is he will be moved to left tackle (offense).

win, you can't just look at #9 compared to #4. We have a better average than several schools. By the time we fill out the class, we'll catch Temple and ECU, and possibly Cincy. That will put us #6. Also, the AAC as a whole is having a better recruiting year. Think about it. An 82.65 average put us 4th. This year, UCF is over an 84, and five other schools are averaging over 83. So a class rated equal, or even slightly better than, last year won't be better than 7th this year. If we have a class that performs comparable to what this past class has, I'll be very happy.

I'll take performance over ranking every time. What you do on the field means a whole lot more than what you were ranked coming out of high school.. We lost out on QB Terrance Gipson, whom we offered early but spurned Tulane for SMU.

But getting back to Robert's point, if the 2019 class performs as well as the 2018 class (and we still haven't seen some of the 2018's talent) we'll be in very good shape.

I hear ya and I hope as I've said before that we finish strong. As to others recruiting better than in the past that means we have to step it up. So far this class hasn't impressed many. I know some thought the Bowl would help but that doesn't really kick in until the next cycle especially because we awaited so long to get going this season. So it's imperative to follow that up with a strong start next season.

Of course performance once they get here is most important. But the long history for us is that how the class is rated has been a good indicator of what we will get from them once they get here.

As to last years class so far we have seen Jones on offense, Johnson, Wright, Monroe and Langham on defense and Ryan Wright on ST's. Good start but we need a lot more than that to step up. They have time and I think they will but they haven't yet so it's too early to know what we will ultimately get from that class. The three top guys are all gone already- Swann, Jackson and Camel.

Funny typo (I hope) on the Tulanegreenwave.com website:
Armoni Dixon | Joker | 6-3 | 220 | Wilmette, Ill. | Loyola Academy
Prior to Tulane: Rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports and the No. 40 player in Illinois…Also received interest from Cincinnati and Navy…Helped Loyola Academy to a victory in the Class 8A Illinois state championship game over Brother Rice in 2018 where his defense held Brother Rice to just 3 points…His team allowed just 33 points per game in five playoff games including two shutouts…Helped Loyola Academy to a state runner-up finish in 2017 and 2016.
Perhaps they forgot a decimal point? If that sentence is accurate, they gave up 55 ppg in the other three playoff games! Not many teams win 3 playoff games in any state giving up 55 points per game!

I hope we're going to talk to Brandon Wimbush, who will be leaving Notre Dame with a degree and one, possibly two years of eligibility left. A dual threat QB, Wimbush was the #45 prospect in the country in his recruiting class of 2015.

He will be immediately eligible since he's getting his degree. He might not consider a G5 school, but we should at least make contact after the Cotton Bowl.
