Mars Blackmon put it best, "It's the shoes!"

Even if she gives her son a Mom discount and only makes 1% cut (a common percentage for a business manager is generally more but every contract is individually negotiated), she will make more from new Nike deal for a few weeks work and meetings then working for years for NSU and Tulane for that matter.

The money for elites in pro sports is incredible that's why in almost all cases, you are economically nuts if you pass on signing a big pro contract in any sport as soon as you can as young as you can.

"Van Norman was a sprinter for LSU from 1989-95, where she was a six-time All-American"....how does one become a 6 time All American. When does eligibility run out for track?

You both are correct. Not sure I remember why she left Tulane.
While at LSU, Van Norman won National Championships in the Indoor and Outdoor 4x100 and 4x400 relays three-straight years from 1991-93.

She helped the Tigers extend their streak of outdoor national team titles to seven consecutive years. LSU also swept the SEC Indoor and Outdoor championships each year from 1991-93.

In 1991, she was part of the team that set the American record in the 4x200 relay. In 1992, Van Norman won the SEC indoor title in the 400 meters and competed in the 400 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
