Athlon Sports and CBSSports.com, selected Tulane's Cairo Santos, a finalist for the Lou Groza Award for the nation's best kicker, for it's third-team pick.

Here are the stats for the former Groza winners. Santos stats match up with them pretty favorably and in almost all cases better, Santos went 24/25 XPAs and 21/21 on FGs. The only problem is Santos didn't kick as many FGs as some of the former winners.
Santos' stats are also overall better than Hopkins and Sturgis on FGs (the other candidates). On the numbers Santos should win, but perhaps they think the FSU and UF kickers have to kick under greater pressure? I'm not sure how they evaluate that though. I would think Santos has a damn good shot at winning.
Groza Finalists.
Hopkins 56 of 57 extra points and 22 of 26 field goals
Sturgis 28 of 29 extra pointsand 20 of 24 field goals

I find it interesting how few of these guys went on to kick in the NFL for any extended period of time. What is it, like 6/20?Charlie Dunn wrote:Here are the stats for the former Groza winners. Awesome!!!!! Someone on Toledo's staff actually did something good by recruiting Santos. Although, CJ's staff coached him.
