Mutual?
"My main reason [for transferring], I would say, is I don’t think I was being played to my full potential or having my ability being fully used," Stark said. "I just felt that with the coaching staff, I didn’t agree with some of the things we did and even though it was helpful to me I don’t think I was going to reach my full potential."
......and now we switch to up tempo.
The timing is curious, weeks after the season. With Pickney, I think they ran him off to make room thinking Stark was staying. Then I am guessing there was some tampering from another program, so Stark decided to leave after getting recruited by others, making the Pickney departure hurt. Just my opinion.
Bye bye Jonathan Stark
Coaches wanted more defense and he wanted more offense. Neither side would meet in the middle. Mutual departure. Let's see where Stark ends up.mbawavefan12 wrote:http://www.tulanehullabaloo.com/sports/ ... 9cb6f.html

Then why come out the next day and say you are going up tempo? Isn't that sort of what Stark is asking for.....whatever I wish him the best. I really hope we add a JUCO or 5th year PG so I can shut up.tpstulane wrote:Coaches wanted more defense and he wanted more offense. Neither side would meet in the middle. Mutual departure. Stark led the team in turnovers in a half court set. That would be magnified in a high tempo offense. Besides we need a guy that can shoot better than in the 30 percentile.mbawavefan12 wrote:Then why come out the next day and say you are going up tempo? He's the PG, or course he led the team in TO's, I mean he was also 3rd in the league in assists I believe. I do think the defense keying on the perimeter hurt him badly and yes we do need better. The issue is we now have no depth or experience at the 1, that's a major issue. I guess we will have to see where he ends up but man it feels like a first year PG will get eaten alive in this league.tpstulane wrote:Stark led the team in turnovers in a half court set. The incoming players will be worth the price of admission. Von Julien needs to get into the weight room, but he looks so much better then Starks at point guard. I would pay to watch Harris, Nichols, and Julien play. I expect Morgan to add experience to the group. It is up to Conroy to put together a respectable pre conference schedule and coach his guys up. If he does it correctly, Fogle/Dev should return to the atmosphere of the nineties. And in the world of competitive college basketball, highly rated freshman players are ready to play at the college level. None of this "young team" cr@p.

So the staff ran off their starting PG. They scouted and recruited him. They should have known that if it's true. Again this is information given after the fact which could certainly be made to cover his butt.
Yes he is gone as is our other PG. Somehow that's supposed to be a good thing. Well since he ran him off I'm sure he has super stud defensive minded PG all lined up to replace him.
As for not drawing we don't draw in the two major sports b/c we don't have the facilities to attract quality coaches and players that would make us winners.

We have no fan base maybe 500 people per game most relatives of players. Most of our senior fan base are deceased and no younger fans coming on board with these terrible teams. How can you have a fan base after Finney,Dickerson and Conroy Dickson great hires. On the football side disaster add Scelfo,Toledo and CJ. Thanks Rick Dickson.

Julien said when he committed that EC told him a few weeks before that the logjam at PG was going to clear up due to transfers. I don't think this caught EC by surprise.

Duhhhhhhh...It takes for things to pretty much get out of hand for the NCAA to begin taking a "closer look" at such things.
Yep. Basically college basketball is like free agency nowadays.....Houma de Wave wrote:tpstulane wrote:NCAA looking at changing transfer rules.

Coaches can leaves when they please. Regular students can transfer at will. Scholarships are not guaranteed. Bball and FBall players provide huge money and branding. They should be able to go where they please. I may not like it as a UMass and TU grad, but I don't believe these universities should be able to own these kids.tpstulane wrote:Yep. Yes regular students can transfer but most pay something in tuition. The transfer rule got changed in baseball. I fully expect the same thing in basketball now.mbawavefan12 wrote:Coaches can leaves when they please. Regular students can transfer at will. Scholarships are not guaranteed. Plenty of regular students are on scholarship. The bowls and the NCAA tourney are each worth about a billion dollars, amateurism in NCAA sports is a farce that ended decades ago.tpstulane wrote:Yes regular students can transfer but most pay something in tuition. Yes but many pay and scholarship athletes go free. It's not the fault of college athletes that TV wants to give their schools billions to show their competition.mbawavefan12 wrote:Plenty of regular students are on scholarship. Your point? No other industry controls the main providers of their content to the degree that the NCAA and these schools do. 60% of the FBall and Bball players at the prestigious University of North Carolina read at a middle school level. 10% couldn't read or write at all. Man that scholarship is so valuable to these kids. Only a tiny percentage go pro, a massive amount are largely used and discarded. They should be able to do as they please.

How about instead we create a TRUE minor league system for football and basketball, and leave universities out of it completely? I know that if I read at a middle school level, I couldn't get into Tulane or any other college. Why should they be able to? Let's get rid of the BS, create minor leagues for these players to go to when they leave HS, pay them a wage, and let college athletics go back to being played by STUDENT-athletes like it should be.mbawavefan12 wrote:Your point? I agree but the leagues want to pass off the costs to the NCAA. In addition, the NCAA admin + the universities want to keep the money/branding flowing. Running minor league teams is not a source of profits.RobertM320 wrote:How about instead we create a TRUE minor league system for football and basketball, and leave universities out of it completely? Jacksonville State beat UT Martin for the OVC Championship tonight.
Stark got pretty much what he wanted...a chance to showcase his talents at Murray State. Unfortunately, Murray is going nowhere because the rest of the team is not that good. Murray was at one time the best of the OVC, until Coach Steve Prohm moved on to Iowa State. Prohm was an assistant at Tulane 2005-06.
