Flash back a couple years: How many could imagine a 2015 season where Ryan Griffin would be playing for the Bucs and Josh Freeman wouldn't be playing anywhere?
Great story on Griff in Tampa Bay here.

Watch HBO's "Hard Knocks". Ryan has been getting some TV time on the show. Last night they had him playing ping pong with his teammates. Also showed him getting hurt.torbida wrote:Ryan Griffin doing well for Tampa Bay buccaneers vs jaguars hope he makes team

Damn. If he's injured, that jeopardizes his career at this point, even if it's only a few weeks.
I think he'd make a great college QB coach. He did a lot with the one of the worst O-Lines in NCAA history. His ability to read the defense and communicate blocking schemes to his linemen was tremendous.

Yes. In fact they mentioned that his fight for remaining a backup is in jeopardy.DfromCT wrote:Damn. If he's injured, that jeopardizes his career at this point, even if it's only a few weeks.

Agree. But I assume if he has his druthers it will be when he is about 40 as Jim Harbaugh did. Griffin's salary as a back-up QB while not guaranteed will be about $1.9 million if he makes the Bucs' roster this year. None of us would walk away from that to start the greasy climb up the woefully underpaid asst. coach salary ladder at the starting rung. If cut, we'd all hang around waiting for the call.DfromCT wrote:Damn. If he's injured, that jeopardizes his career at this point, even if it's only a few weeks.

I'm sure Fox is PO'd at Cutler but hey $10 million is what 20x or some such multiple that he was going to be paid to be a talking head instead of a QB.

The fact that his salary is so high for someone that has taken few (if any) snaps in an NFL regular season game is what works against him at this stage of his career. If cut, you take a job (not necessarily this year) and wait for the call while working. At the very minimum, hope to get invited to camp, but that injury possibility and the salary that 4 year vet could get locked into makes it tougher for a player like Ryan.lurker123 wrote:Agree. I'd still like to see him get his shot and play a few consecutive regular season games. But a lot of factors are working against him. It's a business.

Jameis Winston is suspended for Tampa Bay vs Saints this Sunday. Bucs name Ryan Fitzpatrick starter over Ryan Griffin. Should Fitz go down or have a bad game Ryan Griffin may see some action.

Winston is out for three games. I hope Griff gets his first meaningful NFL snaps.
There's a short vid of Griff throwing a nice deep ball in practice here.

He went 2/4 for 18 yards. Very glad he finally got in there, although stinks he didn't actually get a full game.

He hasn't come close to Chase Daniels money for holding a clipboard, but he's probably made multiples of what I've made the last 7 years!!! Good for him, he's earned every penny.
And yes, I'd love to see him get a start.
