Basically, WF went 17-8 in two years at Georgia Southern (not counting the 2015 Bowl W for Georgia Southern that he did not coach), and, because that success was apparently not enough to extend him, he left for Tulane.

This by no means indicates that WF should be extended right now. If he was 17-8 for two years at Tulane, he would probably get a 10 year contract if he wanted one.

I dont think anyone is suggesting he get an extension. He's got this season plus 4 additional years. He wants job security, and he has it as long as he produces.

Exactly. Plus the last time we gave a 10 year extension it didn't go well. You absolutely see the season out before doing anything. I don't think he's the type but you don't ever want to give too much security out.

seems like the ga southern ad responded to this by showing the press an approved contract extension:

wonder why fritz would lie to these kids if this extension was in fact offered?regardless it doesnt appear there was a great relationship between these two. i seem to remember their ad announcing fritz's departure way before we announced his arrival. also it seems like fritz's endorsement of that one coach was the kiss of death for him.

OK. We're truly back to where's the space in your name? Fritz told a lie? Really?

The article you quote doesn't say that Fritz had seen the (extended) contract. If he had, he certainly didn't sign it. The money was nothing close to what Tulane was offering. Clearly the AD and Coach Fritz didn't get along.
