here's my guess for a starting lineup.
Kaplan RF
Witherspoon CF
Hope 3B
Williams 1B
Willsey 2b
Montalbano DH
Brown/Dehart LF
Hoese/Grozzo SS
Grozzo C
let the opinions roll in..... I spent no time on L/R batting positions.
I welcome any insight into SS, C, and DH.

That's enough to get to second base
He will have to gain stamina since he missed summer and fall ball
Good to hear. Thanks for the update.

Here is what I think these new coaches will do with the limited time they've seen our players:
C - Montalbano
1st - Williams
2nd - Willsey
3rd - Hope
SS - Hoese
LF - Brown
CF - Kaplan
RF - Witherspoon
DH - Dehart/Rowland
Fri - Little Massey
Sat - Merrill
Sun - France
Now, after watching almost every single game these kids have ever played at Tulane, here is what I think should happen
C - Montalbano
1st - Williams
2nd - Rowland
3rd - Hope
SS - Willsey
LF - Dehart
CF - Brown
RF - Kaplan
DH - Witherspoon
You can flip flop a couple guys around. Like Witherspoon to OF and one of them to DH. I just think Dehart/Kaplan/Brown are better athletes than spoon so i put spoon at DH.
Rowland has trouble with the glove but we need his bat in the lineup, so maybe he can be DH, and Dehart can play 2nd? Either way, Rowland/Witherspoon/Dehart's bats are better than any freshmen we have to play MIF so one will need to play 2nd.
This lineup has some POP!

Agree too. He's been Friday nighter since he was a freshmen. Only reason I put massey down for Friday was because kenny Rogers said that on d1 Chat he was Friday nighter after talking to jewett. On Friday you want your best against their best. Corey has been excellent on Friday. He could use a little offensive help. How many times he got one run or no run support.RollWaveRoll wrote:Agree too. He's been Friday nighter since he was a freshmen. We don't have many options. Only 2 catchers on the roster and one is a true freshman. Jeremy is a tough guy and will do whatever is necessary
It will be incumbent on the pitchers to hold the runners close

The other shortstop, Gozzo, (along with his twin brother the Frosh catcher) was very highly recruited. Both are exceptional athletes. Chain gang, are you predicting Hoese after seeing them, or just a hunch? I'd be thrilled if both Gozzo and Hoese pan out and play a whole lot over the next four years.chain gang x man wrote:Battle for shortstop between 2 freshmen

Hoese is bigger, stronger has more pop in his bat and has better range then Gozzo. He was also very highly recruited
I think Jewett will use both early on and let the best man win
Hoese could be our 3rd baseman next year
Just MHO for what it's worth (not much LOL)
Opening weekend will afford us a good chance since Army and Air Force are not power houses and they play each other in a Friday day game before Army buses down to play us that night

I agree, up the middle D is always important. We were spoiled the last few years with Alamais and Rogers. If whomever wins the starting SS and C job plays anywhere near where these two played, we'll be damned good. Big shoes to fill, for sure.
