Right smack in the middle of basketball season, Coach Jewett gives the Bayouland Booster Club a reprieve at our meeting tomorrow night in Houma. If interested, we will be meeting at Fleet Supply Warehouse, 205 Venture Blvd. in Houma at 6:30pm. It's kinda like the ol' Billy Joel "Piano Man" lyrics, we'll be "forgetting about life for a while." (More like "forgetting about basketball season" for a while.)
Join us if you can- food and drink provided.

Of course, Coach would not tell us "when." He said he wanted to announce all 23 signees at one time, which makes sense. He alluded to the idea of keeping things private so that "others" don't know very much about them (assume he means pro scouts).chain gang x man wrote:Ask him when the list of signees is going to be released
If you've met Coach Jewett you know how outgoing and personable he is. He entertained our well-attended Bayoulands Green Wave Club meeting.

What else did Coach Jewett have to say? Did he talk about the all turf (no dirt) field we just installed? Talk about small ball vs. long ball? Please, let us know what he spent his time with y'all discussing.

He spent a lot of time talking about how he motivates the player; why he wanted the job...matching the ideals of Vanderbilt...the opportunities for players to get the great education + playing for a renowned program. Says he has 2 posters of the 2001 and 2005 CWS teams to show everyone that Tulane baseball has been and will continue to be a big winner. Admitted that pitching will be thin with Witherspoon definitely pitching. Says recruiting with 11.7 scholarships at a school like Tulane is not going to deter him nor his staff. He relishes making the tough sale to parents who have to come up with the bucks to send their kid on a partial Scholarship and is not intimidated by the Tulane tuition.DfromCT wrote:What else did Coach Jewett have to say? Bringing in 23 signees noting we have no juniors. Said he's coached nothing but winners. Told the players to focus on 6-28-17...when Game 3 of the CWS is played; so, sometime back he sent a long motivational email at 6:28:17 a.m. to his players and staff.
He thinks the new turf is great...really likes the design.
We pressed him for info on the players and he gave in on a few things; obviously, Merrill, Massey and Franco would be the weekend starters, but said all positions are open for rent. He likes the freshman Solesky. He's hoping Montalbano's arm is in good shape to catch and admitted we're thin there with one of the Gozzo twins probably getting playing time. The other Gozzo is a good defensive SS. He's worked with Hunter Hope to avoid getting behind in the count and cut back on the K's.
We had a great time with him last night.
Thanks for all the info..

It means you've made it past the elimination round.Jaxwave wrote:Why Game 3 of the CWS vs Game 1?

Doesn't that assume you're in the bracket that plays the first day? Games 1-4 should all be the first game for any team.Houma de Wave wrote:It means you've made it past the elimination round.Jaxwave wrote:Why Game 3 of the CWS vs Game 1?

I think it refers to game 3 of the best 2 of 3 for the championship.

Thanks for all the info, Houma. That's exactly what I was looking for, you brought us into the room with Coach J. I am excited about our baseball team, and hope ALL of us can rally behind our new coach.
