NEW ORLEANS— Head men's basketball coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr., has announced the addition of Ray Ona Embo to the 2016-17 roster. The incoming freshman originally hails from Lognes, France, but finished his high school career at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

In his only season at Quality Education Academy, Ona Embo helped his team to a 29-5 record. Prior to attending school in North Carolina, the 6-3, 185-pound point guard attended Balboa City School and played two years of AAU for Play Hard Play Smart in California. Ona Embo was touted as a three-star recruit by ESPN.com, Rivals and 247Sports.

The Tulane men's basketball team begins its 2016-17 at home against North Carolina on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Smoothie King Center in downtown New Orleans. Season tickets are on sale now, click here to purchase or call 504-861-WAVE (9283).

Looks like a good pick up. It's been out for a while that he signed w/us. For some reason Tulane held back on the announcement. He may well start at PG for us.

Some old scouting reports on Embo:

From 2014:
Renathan Ona Embo 6-4 170 PG RD Congo 1998

I saw the young French PG last year with the U16 French national team in Kiev, when he was one of the youngest players in the tournament. Ona Embo grew a couple of inches and stood out for team Africa at Nations. He is an athletic combo guard who can score and create for his teammates. More thick and strong than many African PGs, he played for Findlay Prep last year and plans to return. Has the upside and understanding of the game to become a really good player.

From early 2016:
Unafraid to let shots fly, junior combo guard Renathan Ona Embo of Play Hard Play Smart is one to watch for the Rivals150. Pushing 6-foot-4, he has good size, can create a shot and has some athleticism. His shot selection needs some work but he was pretty effective with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Tulane Men's Basketball is about to become so totally different than what we have been used to in the past. Win or lose, it will be a VERY refreshing breath of air.

Embo is the 9th guard on the roster for 2016-17. We have one Center (Smith) and two forwards (Jones, a true Freshman and Blake Paul) eligible this year. If any of our frontcourt players get in foul trouble, we could be very small on the court. I don't know what our record will be, but it will be interesting to see how Dunleavy deals with our lack of frontcourt players.

Sehic, the transfer from Vanderbilt, sits this season out.

That roster is wrong. Reynolds and Frazier are small forwards. I agree we need more big guys but just wanted to clarify the status of these two players.
