If Cowen was receiving $1.6M in comp, and his wife was making six figures on the payroll, its safe to assume the Cowen household was pulling in well over $2M/year in total comp from Tulane, considering the perks.
Then Cowen irresponsibly sat on other outside Boards for which he has no expertise, which probably added another few hundred thousand in compensation.
So Cowen was probably making ~$2.5M/year and stooges like Dickson and Yvette Jones were paid in the high hundreds of thousands per year to play along.
Tulane and Tulane alumni were the big losers in all this.

If anyone is to be investigated, it's not CJ, who is only receiving market compensation for his efforts, which were unfortunately the best he was able to do. The real crooks are Cowen and Dickson, who have made millions by perpetuating this farce
The second commandment has not been abrogated.

I don't buy that. There were plenty of good candidates still available, including Fritz. You go from trying to hire RR or Leach all the way down to CJ. That would be illogical and reeks of internal politics.JTLiuzza wrote:+1jonathanjoseph wrote:Y'all seem to be forgetting that we tried offering the job to a number of others first. Just silly to say that CJ was the best coach available to us. For one, our current coach. I mean, it was a terribly conducted search. That's the problem. We had lots of options but screwed it up and picked the wrong one because RD is clueless.

as much we joked about Coker, he is like Rockne compared to CJ. btw, UTSA basketball loses to Utah Valley tonight and is 2-10.golfnut69 wrote:Sader....wave755 posted he wanted Larry Coker, in response to your post...all things considered, he would have been a massive upgrade over one Curtis Johnson, who can now paint coconuts in peacesader24 wrote:Wave755 wrote:And, we want Larry Coker!!!sader24 wrote:My position all along is that we need to pay the Head Coaching position a certain amount of money regardless of the performance of said coach that puts us in the Top 4 salary wise. Feel free to go read the many times I've stated that.
Think you got the wrong person, I've never wanted or said I wanted Larry Coker.

Very good summary of what was going on. I have to believe one of the primary reasons Cowen did little to no fund raising for Tulane his first ten years as president was that he was consumed with his numerous corporate directorships. He spent more time on the few hundred thousands of dollars per year in board fees than he did on the $2.0MM+ he and his wife was getting from Tulane--and the BOA just sat by and let it happen.jonathanjoseph wrote:If Cowen was receiving $1.6M in comp, and his wife was making six figures on the payroll, its safe to assume the Cowen household was pulling in well over $2M/year in total comp from Tulane, considering the perks.

I still believe that we could have won six on this schedule. Just coaching, particularly offense and special teams, was awful.
Competent special teams and offense and we win Navy, Tulsa, and UConn. That takes you from 3-9 to 6-6. EASY. Decent coaching would have gotten you there, and the losses would have been more competitive. For that reason I would not be surprised if Willie Fritz went 8-4 his first year here. The talent was here. The coaching was not, now we have the coaching. A Tommy Bowden/Rich Rod like turn around is not out of the question.

Be a Hero Today.... Adopt a Shelter Pet... The Beatles once sang "Can't Buy Me Love"... I disagree, unconditional Love can be bought, for the nominal adoption fee at your local Pet Shelter !

Likely. But that would have required a lot less moronic coaching on his part.golfnut69 wrote:6 - 6 and that moron n would have been extended !!!Robert1969 wrote:I still believe that we could have won six on this schedule. Just coaching, particularly offense and special teams, was awful.
