Just shows the typical lack of effort on the part of our local media here, 'nut.

Dannen first hire will be an interesting one for a couple of reasons...Does he go after a former HC...Golden, Schiano, Chizk ,Ogeron, etc...or does he go the OC / DC route... opposite ends of the spectrum with qualified people on both ends...RobertM320 wrote:Just shows the typical lack of effort on the part of our local media here, 'nut.

That interview with Lenny Vangilder is just awesome. He really wants to stop doing things that don't (and haven't) worked. He all but came out and said "The Tulane Model" didn't work, we're not going to keep trying it.
Interesting to note that the Northern Iowa basketball team upset #5 Iowa State (on the Cyclones home court, no less) yesterday. The victory over previously unbeaten ISU is the Panthers second over a top 5 team this season. Earlier in the year, the UNI squad took down previously unbeaten and #1 University of North Carolina.
UNI Men's basketball is now 3-2 in their last five games against top 10 competition. When was the last time Tulane beat a ranked opponent?

According to sports-reference.com, it's been 16 years, when Tulane beat 25th ranked NC St at Fogelman 73-62:DfromCT wrote:

And I think they've got the location wrong. If I remember correctly, I was at that game, and it was in the New Orleans Arena. I think it was one of the first events ever held there after it opened.puffy wrote:According to sports-reference.com, it's been 16 years, when Tulane beat 25th ranked NC St at Fogelman 73-62:DfromCT wrote:

You're correct. Official attendance for that game was 5408.RobertM320 wrote:And I think they've got the location wrong. 16 years is longer than most of the current players can remember. It's time to get us a basketball coach that can make us all look forward to basketball games, with postseason (NIT or NCAA) possibilities every year.

Here's a link to an interview with Troy Dannen on Fox 8
Troy Dannen knows how to give an interview! I don't understand why upbeat language such as this was so foreign to Dickson. He had to be the worst communicator in college athletics.
WHAT? The big 12 referring to Tulane as a sleeping giant?

Troy Dannen: "You can NEVER STOP infrastructure development, or you'll be left behind." Talks about support facilities, etc.
And even mentioned Shaun King. Already trying to reconnect with former players.
Never thought I'd see the day that an interview like that came out of the Wilson Center.

TD is a well spoken, well dressed professional...he will reunify the Tulane fan base and former Athletes, and make inroads with NOLA companies to increase support. Tulane fans will never be told to "take it across the street" under his watch. Do I think Tulane will be Ohio State or Michigan, no..but I do think there is no reason for Tulane not to be on par with Duke, BYU, Miami, Syracuse and with a little reach TCU or BaylorRobertM320 wrote:Troy Dannen: "You can NEVER STOP infrastructure development, or you'll be left behind." I think TCU and Baylor are the examples that Troy Dannen can use to show the President and BOA what can happen if we really commit to winning. He certainly talks like winning is important, and that they want to get to places we haven't been since the first half of the last century. If the "sleeping giant" is truly going to wake up, we're in for a very fun ride the next ten years. It's not going to be a snap, overnight transformation (we can be in one of the bowls played before Christmas next year!) but it's something that is going to be built to last.golfnut69 wrote:TD is a well spoken, well dressed professional...he will reunify the Tulane fan base and former Athletes, and make inroads with NOLA companies to increase support. This is a great interview, and shows how open and honest a man with a plan can be. To hear him say that the commissioner of the Big 12 thinks Tulane is a sleeping giant is SO encouraging. Let's hope they see the giant awakening before they vote to expand.
Again, I hope this post doesn't make it to the "foolish things we said three years ago" thread in 2018, but it sure seems like the Administration, under Fitts and now Dannen, wants to be part of the NCAA Athletics "haves" rather than pursue the Tulane Model, and be banished to the "have nots".

Troy Dannen is just fantastic. A complete breath of fresh air and such a stark contrast from Dickson. This is a million miles from "you can walk across the street".
I have no doubt that Dannen can be successful in fulfilling the potential of this "sleeping giant".
All it took was not continuing to pay Rick Dickson hundreds of thousands of dollars per year to effectively give us the middle finger.
