Agreed. Honestly, Tulane should put serious effort in only scheduling P5s from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Georgia, and Alabama if possible. That seems like a small group of states, but, in reality, that's 17 P5s to negotiate with right there.

Wake Forest and Northwestern are certainly neat, but casual fans would not really care about those games.
Right now, local P5's are going to want 2-1 or a min to play in the Dome on a 1-1.

If you look around, elite private schools are forming their own sort of scheduling alliance to deal with the bias from the giant P5 publics. This is good company to share from a branding standpoint, already have done Duke and Wake recently. . We need to work on Stanford, BC and Vandy next. Sure they may not be big draws at the box office but we can get 1-1 with the privates and show that we belong in the discussion with these elite national privater brands.
That's great if it were for 1 for 1's, but Duke and Wake weren't 1 for 1s, as Duke was a 3 for 1 and Wake was a 2 for 1.

Northwestern's 1 for 1 is neat, but fans need to see more of that before considering that becoming a trend.
Didn’t our former AD make those poor contracts? A 3-1 with Duke is absurd.

They did. It just seems weird for Tulane to have to leave this region to schedule P5s given how many big names nearby unless its scheduling a nationally relevant team such as USC, Ohio State, Notre Dame, or FSU.

That's where NOT having LSU on our schedule every year hurts us. If we had them on an annual basis, that's one less OOC game to schedule. The other SEC teams might be more likely to play us on better terms if we played in Baton Rouge one year and New Orleans the next.

I know a few people have commented on this board that LSU is no longer our rival or measuring stick. That said, it's a game that would draw interest on both sides. Even if we only beat them once or twice a decade, it would be a big boost to our program. That is probably why LSU doesn't want to schedule us annually.

99% of my friend are LSU fans. They have absolutely zero interest in playing us in football and it has nothing to do with the possibility of losing to us. It’s getting extremely expensive and time consuming to go to LSU games in Baton Rouge and the only thing that moves the needle for them is SEC games and a top 10-15 non conference game. Quite frankly they aren’t even attracted to lower level sec games at this point. They have no interest in watching LSU play Tulane in football. We would have to do a lot of winning over a decent period of time for them to care about playing us in football.

In recent years they’ve played Troy, USM, Wku, Syracuse, Monroe, New Mexico State, Eastern Michigan, not to mention all their fcs opponents.

Tulane would be a more interesting/more difficult opponent that most of those.

Remind your friends if lsu didn’t get all their bye games they’d rarely make a decent bowl game.

And not for nothing, but look at how well the Tulane v LSU baseball games draw even when we stink.

LSU didn't sell out a single game last year. They still ranked 6th in the country in attendance. But I cannot imagine Tulane vs. LSU not doing at least as well as LSU vs. Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Missouri, La Tech, SE Louisiana, Rice, Ga Southern, Northwestern State or even a decent Utah State team (the last three are on next year's LSU schedule).

Even if they beat us like a drum, the game would have a LOT more interest than 3/4 of their OOC games going forward. Each year they play one good team and 3 uninspiring ones.

Take a look at this hum-dinger of an OOC schedule for 2021:

http://www.lsusports.net/SportSelect.db ... EASON=2021

And from 2022 going forward, they have openings. Let's get back to the annual Thanksgiving Day games. Even if we have to give LSU a share of the gate when they play in N.O. (presumably at the Dome) it's in our best interests to make it happen.

They don’t have any interest in watching the teams you named either that’s why their actual attendance for those games is about 25k less than announced and even worse after halftime.

They don't have any interest in those teams, yet their AD scheduled them anyway. So why would it hurt LSU to schedule Tulane.?

They'd outdraw, or at a minimum match the draw of MANY of their upcoming opponents. Obviously LSU isn't scheduling simply to please the fan base. And Tulane is a whole lot more fun to beat up on than some of the scrubs they've scheduled coming up.

Sader, I get your point. But I think Tulane vs. LSU would draw draw a big crowd on both sides. Traditions die hard. So if your LSU fan friends don't care about a Tulane game F them! Others, would buy the tickets, unless one of the teams was REALLY bad.
Notes from the last Tulane vs LSU game in 2007:
Today's announced attendance of 58,769 is the largest crowd to see a Green Wave home game since Nov. 21, 1987, when 70,168 fans were on hand to see Tulane take on LSU. Today's crowd ranks eighth in Tulane/Superdome history.

D, you answered your own question a few posts ago. I bolded it. They have little to gain and a lot to lose. It would not make good business sense on their part to legitimize us as a rival.

We're going to have to beat the middling P5 programs & somewhere in the not too distant future we are going to have to pull off a top fifteen victory. We will always be treated as the Sh*tbird program until we start defeating good teams.
If/when the football coaching staff leaves, let us all hope that President Fitts & AD Dannon are on staff for a smooth transition that can keep the momentum going.

Exactly. LSU fans love to talk shit but put the game with us on the schedule and they'll be there. It won't happen b/c they're gutless pieces of shit.

Actually we did that. Bertman agreed to a 10 year home and home with LSU getting 35,000 tickets IIRC to sell from which they kept their profits. When he retired and they hired his nutless successor their fans put out a rumor that we got all the money from the sales. Our dickless AD ,RD, didn't counter that with the truth. The fans then demanded that the series be canceled. RD knuckled under with the promise of one future home game with them. Still waiting.

They can’t be nutless, they play in the toughest division of the toughest conference in the country and routinely play at 1 Top 25 OOc opponent per year. Their AD is a moron and even LSU fans despise him. They aren’t giving road games to Non P5 teams and we want a home game. They have nothing to gain playing us because they already own New Orleans recruiting. Their fans don’t care about us in football so there is no fan pressure on the Athletic Dept to schedule us. We played them on several occasions since 1996 and got blownout each time. Personally I like the direction Dannen has gone with scheduling. He took some big paydays but mostly he’s scheduled semi attractive P5 teams that we have a chance to beat and compete with. Nobody would love for there to be an LSU-Tulane football rivalry more than me, but there currently isn’t one and there doesn’t appear to be tremendous interest in it from either side right now. I know some of you older Guys want to think that LSU fans still think about us and are purposely not playing us bc they might lose, I heard my dad tell the same story in the 80s and early 90s. There isn’t a LSU fan under 40 or 45 years old who gives two sh*ts about Tulane or has any desire to play them. Some of the stupider LSU fans actually don’t even know we have a football team especially the women.

With all due respect Sader, I have a dozen or more LSU friends in N.O. who to a man acknowledge LSU should play Tulane vs the worthless rent a games they have now, and would be happy to see some games in N.O. as part of that. There are lots of LSU fans in N.O. who never see them play because they don't have season tickets and aren't interested in the ordeal of going up to B.R. They recognize the history they have with Tulane football. These LSU fans are in their 50s and 40s.

Skip Bertman recognized all of these things when scheduling the 10 year home & home. He was very public about it. Why else would he have done it. There were a small but very influential group of LSU big money people in BR who could not stand the thought of giving Tulane a home & home and agitated for several years. When Alleva took over, he immediately pandered to that to curry favor, and that is absolutelt why the series was cancelled. He openly bragged about what he did to those boosters.

tufinal4, that's exactly my point: it makes more sense to play Tulane every year than it does to play some of the rent-a-wins they play each and every year. It would take some creativity, and probably some concessions from the 'Dome, (like splitting the gate, parking and concessions in New Orleans) as playing that game at Yulman is highly unlikely.

Exactly right. Bertman had it right. They got almost half the gate. The Dome sat 70,000 then. They got from 30-35k of those to sell themselves. It was a de-facto home game for them.
