This is for everyone, consider the fact that expansion at this university in this city would very likely be a decade long decision and construction. So what we are basically saying here is that expansion is probably highly unlikely at an on-campus site. So with that being said what is everyone's opinion on the following:
1) What should the capacity of a new stadium be?
2) What do you honestly think Cowen/Dickson believe the capacity should be?
3) What's the lowest capacity level in your mind that you would accept and still think it makes sense?
4) What do you believe our average attendance would be in the Superdome after 10 years of consistent winning (7-11 games per year) and playing 1 SEC opponent in the Dome per year?
My answers
1) 40,000
2) 25-28,000
3) 37,500
4) 42-45,000
Stadium Capacity ( 21K, 23K, 25K, 5K SRO ??? )

The stadium will be built with expansion in mind, so this exercise is moot

This exercise is moot anyway. Tulane will never build this stadium. At least, it will never happen while Cowen is around. We actually need a practice facility more
than a stadium at this point. They were talking about this practice facility several years ago like it was going to happen but like most things at Tulane, it was just talk. Add to that talk about having money to renovate Fogelman!

I agree the exercise is moot, but I'm just asking to see where those who are gung-ho about the stadium stand. If you read anything I've written you realize I don't believe they are serious about the stadium, I dont think they can fit a stadium above 28,000, and I think the stadium should be on the back burner at best. I'm just curious if people who are for the stadium are for a 25,000 person stadium which is what I think we'll probably get if we get anything. I also don't think expansion will ever happen at this university, like I said the Sugar Bowl committee was responsible for expanding the original stadium. The Sugar Bowl is in the Dome now.

Good one...whatever happened to that? Wasn't the story that the donor had already made the donation for that?Bigschtick wrote:This exercise is moot anyway. Tulane will never build this stadium. At least, it will never happen while Cowen is around. We actually need a practice facility more

Tulane sports: small football stadium, very small basketball arena, w̶i̶n̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶p̶r̶o̶g̶r̶a̶m̶s̶, h̶o̶n̶e̶s̶t̶y̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶a̶c̶c̶o̶u̶n̶t̶a̶b̶i̶l̶i̶t̶y̶ , but, hey, now there's tailgating.

Does original stadium size really matter?
I have compiled graphs of old Tulane and present SEC stadiums listing their original sizes and their final capacities. All stadiums are on campus or a short walk away from campus.
I have found that original stadium size has very little to do with final stadium size and much more to do with program success. As football became more popular and teams began to draw crowds the stadiums grew to match the fan numbers. Of the 13 stadiums listed, only Kentucky’s stadium started off larger than 35k and only two were 35K. The remaining ten started off 30K or under. The smallest original stadium size was Tennessee with a capacity or 3,200.

It's not the early 1900's anymore Dorothy. More importantly 25,000 isn't the starting point it is the finishing point. There's only so much space. This isn't about what people want to see unfold but what the realities of the available space are. But for arguments sake say you start at 25,000 w/hopes of adding on. What happens is your program is deemed a joke b/c of the size, you can't recruit and out attendance woes continue leading us where SC has clearly wanted it all along-D-3. BTW, you won't have the Sugar Bowl to pay for any expansion. RD has been trying for a year and hasn't been able to even raise half the amount. So where are these deep pocketed Tulane alums?

Thanks Scarecrow. A fitting name for someone who read this post and came up with finishing point for stadium size.RWR wrote:It's not the early 1900's anymore Dorothy. More importantly 25,000 isn't the starting point it is the finishing point.
The Stadium will fit on campus with a bit of finesse and be upgradeable.

At what point are yall going to come to grips with reality? The reason Tulane Stadium was a major stadium in the South was because the Sugar Bowl Committee aka whatever it was called from the 30's on funded the expansion. Tulane had to bail on Tulane Stadium and commit to the Superdome because Tulane couldn't afford the upkeep of Tulane Stadium. The only reason Tulane Stadium survived the last half of the 60's and 1st half of the 70's was because of the Saints.
Do ya'll really believe 1) Tulane is going to build a Stadium 2) The neighborhood will allow Tulane to build a 25K+ stadium uptown 3) Tulane will ever expand a stadium that takes 45 years to build? They've had multiple plans since Vince Gibson. Like I said, my dad saw actual plans for a 40K+ stadium pre Mack Brown, they have had the plans since the early 80's yet they need 12 months to pretend they need 12 months to study a stadium they've had plans for since 82. It's all B.S.
I think one difference is we're trying to show we're more committed than ever and more committed than most schools in our bracket. 25K puts us on their level. 45k puts us above them.
Starting at mediocrity with the way this athletic department accepts and promotes change means the 50k stadium would happen in 2050. And you know how slow construction is in NOLA.

I promised myself I wouldn't jump into this idiotic stadium "debate" anymore because by doing so all we are is hamsters running around on Cowen's little treadmill.
We've already got a state of the art 60,000+ venue to play in and it looks like a tomb on Saturday because the football program loses ugly and consistently, has done so for a long time, and Tulane has illustrated over and over to the entire metro area that they don't care about that at all or they would have done something about it long ago. It's really that simple. People aren't stupid.

I do not know about Ya"ll but for me yes they will build a stadium. No matter how much some people will complain about it the overwhelming number of Tulane fans appear to want it. So yes I believe it will happen.sader24 wrote:Do ya'll really believe 1) Tulane is going to build a Stadium.
The neighborhood in all likely hood will not have a choice. In fact, some of the neigbors located on Audobon Blvd. may even be subject to Eminent Domain.sader24 wrote:2) The neighborhood will allow Tulane to build a 25K+ stadium uptown
Stadiums can be built within 1 to 3 years but that is based on funding not because you have a blueprint for a stadium.sader24 wrote: 3)Tulane will ever expand a stadium that takes 45 years to build? They've had multiple plans since Vince Gibson.
Funding is what will drive this not some outdated stadium plan.sader24 wrote:Like I said, my dad saw actual plans for a 40K+ stadium pre Mack Brown, they have had the plans since the early 80's yet they need 12 months to pretend they need 12 months to study a stadium they've had plans for since 82.
