The Memphis o line looked like something we are usually complaining about. The Tulane defense was coming through with little resistance. The one complaint I have is how many times Memphis LB 55 came crashing from backside with no one even looking at him. If he just gets slightly chipped, Tulane scores the TD before half easily.
We wouldn't have been up without him. We were good on 3rd down b/c of him. He used his running ability to keep us going . The D deserves a lot of credit too. we had good field position most of the night.greenie78 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 8:05 amThat's an exaggeration. It was 17-14 before Banks went out. Not sure. Some are saying it was cramps but he limped around the sideline the rest of the game. Someone by me thought he had a hip pointer.nawlinspete wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 8:45 amSaw that, too. If he's injured and replaced what's his beef ?
If he's OK what's going on ? Held out as precaution ? Benched and replaced by the transfer ?

Banks probably had his best game, and it still only got us 17 points. He simply can't make the right RPO decisions, and holds the ball way too long--the announcers noticed this as well while he was on the field. We won the game because our OL and DL won the battle of the trenches, and our defense was nothing less than heroic. McMillan made the correct RPO reads which sprung Bradwell, Dauphine, and even Huderson. Banks may be a better runner (even though he moves more like a water buffalo), but McMillan is the better passer, and most importantly, the better decision maker. We can only hope that this Tulane team continues to show up for the rest of the season.winwave wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 9:16 amWe wouldn't have been up without him. Banks was leading us on the drive before he got hurt. McMillan threw one pass all night and as someone else already said he threw it 3 yards. Mooney made a good move and then took off. There is no way to judge McMillan as a passer here. He's thrown probably less than 5 passes and they have for the most part been short slants. Banks is a big guy but he runs well.. He just does. Our backs had good runs in the game last night when Banks was in too.
If you want to be mad at somebody be mad at Fritz and Ruse for holding Banks back till the 5th game of the season. Fritz did own it though after the UAB game and admitted they had over coached him about staying in the pocket. He acknowledged that Banks' scrambling is an important part of our offense. He has also been quoted as saying that McMillan is not a runner though he thinks he could be ok if he practiced at it.

Here are a couple of my gameday thoughts;
- I cannot believe we held Darrell Henderson to 51 yards rushing, 47 of those coming on the first play from scrimmage. For his other 6 attempts, he gained four yards. He did pick up an additional 45 yards receiving.
- Give McMillan more credit for his TD pass. It was a dramatic moment and a turning point in the game: Memphis had the momentum as a result of the last scoring drive which brought them within 3 points; Tulane had just committed yet another boneheaded penalty causing a 2nd and 11 at our own 45; on the next play, Banks is injured as he gains 4 yards to our 49; In comes a cold McMillan, is exposed to a jailbreak rush and is hammered hard as he completes the 51 yard pass to Darnell Mooney to give us breathing room. Watch it here: http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=24826964
- If we are going to earn a bowl bid, we absolutely must curtail the penalties. Last night we again committed a number of mindless, sloppy penalties which could easily have made the difference in a close game. We gave away 95 yards in penalties compared to only 20 for Memphis.
- There was no Star Spangled Banner before last night's game. I'm assuming this is because there had been an earlier lightning delay, right?

McMillan's pass was a dart, which I'm not sure Banks could have thrown accurately. Beyond that, if Banks had stayed in the game I'm not sure we would have won--our OL was dominating the Memphis DL, but we still only had 17 points, and a 3 point lead, after three quarters. Apparently the coaching staff felt the same way.GreenLantern wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 1:16 pm Here are a couple of my gameday thoughts;

No they didn't. Banks was hurt but don't let facts get in the way of your agenda.

Open your eyes, please. Statistically, yes the pass was 3 yards, but it was more like 20 yards with a man in his face. And, Mooney didn't make a move until he was 10 yards down field. The defender was playing way off and was picked by his own teammate who was being blocked by one of our receivers. Yes, the jury is still out on McMillan. Yes, the jury is still very much out on Banks. Yes, the jury is still out on Ruse.winwave wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 11:34 am Banks was leading us on the drive before he got hurt. Open your eyes. Banks used his abilities to set us up for the win. Give credit where it's due.

55 had easy reads, Banks never looked at him, to force him to make a read, he read Banks !!!...the man in motion, (towards 55) was never in the play, was never offered the football to slow his rush and was never in a position to make a block on 55, he just had to crash down on the on,y read....anEngineer wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 8:49 am The Memphis o line looked like something we are usually complaining about. If we can beat a much improved Cincinati team, I think we have a shot at getting a bowl this season.

Current projections still have us at 6-6 without beating Cincy. Wins at home vs SMU, ECU and Navy, and a win @Tulsa gets us to 6-6. A win over a much improved Cincinnati team would give us a cushion, with the only two likely losses being @USF and @Htn.Bigschtick wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 1:43 pm If we can beat a much improved Cincinati team, I think we have a shot at getting a bowl this season.

That's certainly doable. Hopefully we do more than that. This season isn't about just scratching out 6 wins against the low hanging fruit. It's time to take a real step forward and show that the program is truly headed in the right direction.RobertM320 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 1:49 pmCurrent projections still have us at 6-6 without beating Cincy. Banks had a cramp, road the stationary bike a few minutes and was ready to return to the game. He through his fit because he didn’t go back in after he was fine. I suspect Banks will start against Cincy, he’ll either get hurt running, or Fritz will decide he needs more than 5.57 points per quarter. My only agenda is for Tulane to field an offense that can score more than 5.57 points per quarter.

As pointed out it wasn't Bans throwing a fit. But you sure are.

Then someone should call Fritz' radio show and ask the specific question: On the two 4th Qtr TD drives McMillian lead, was he running the read-option, or just pre called plays. If he was mostly making option reads, I might lend some credence to him being better at it than Banks. However, I still think Banks starts and plays until he gets hurt. I don't see us at a point where McMillan can start, because I doubt he knows the majority of the playbook yet. We'd be limiting ourselves again, like we were the early part of last season.HoustonWave wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 1:59 pmBanks had a cramp, road the stationary bike a few minutes and was ready to return to the game. It’s “threw” not “through”, and he didn’t throw one. You are inexcusably perpetuating a lie at this point. I corrected your mistake in another thread. How can you possibly expect people to take your “analysis” seriously when you cannot tell our starting quarterback from our starting cornerback?HoustonWave wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 1:59 pmBanks had a cramp, road the stationary bike a few minutes and was ready to return to the game. Nobody can answer if we still win had JB stayed or returned. One thing is certain however. When McMillan took the field, it was game over. Everyone on the team elevated their game on both sides of the ball. A close game became a blowout. From the first play. We can’t answer why or if it happens with JB still in. But it did happen.
No it didn't but don't let that stop your agenda. Banks getting those third down pick ups on scrambles helped elevate his team.

My only agenda is wanting to have the best players on the field so Tulane can win. Even if it is Jonathan Banks. Im rooting for the kid. I don’t understand your agenda but you’re awefully upset after an incredibly large and potentially season turning win. But call me what you want . Whatever floats your boat.
He's part of the solution not the problem Coaching was the problem. Just don't like people trying to give a false narrative. He deserves better. Trying to say everyone on both sides elevated their game b/c of McMillan is ridiculous. The Memphis D was tired at that point and quit as others have noted.
